Chip Run
Mon 3rd Aug 2015
organised by Grampian Scotland

Car Count : Unknown
[ show pre-run info ]

Four cars met at Tesco Westhill on 3 August before enjoying a spirited run westwards via Loch of Skene, Cullerlie, Hirn, and Glassel and then making our way to Potarch and the south Deeside area before parking up in the main Ballater Car Park and walking to the chip shop where the chips were to die for!  We had a small diversion at Aboyne due to road surfacing work but regained our route at Dinnet.

Marty had brought along a cake for my birthday but we were put off by the signs in the chip shop eating area saying only purchased food could be consumed in the premises so Scott & Margaret volunteered the use of their house in Banchory for the purpose of cake consumption – Thank you S & M!  The tea and coffee was fine too!

This resulted in a slightly curtailed homeward route via Logie Coldstone, Tarland, Lumphanan and Torphins.  I’ll need to investigate my planned roads on another occasion!

The weather lived up to forecast – it was bright and sunny and our roofs were down all the time.  Unfortunately the weather brought out a number of walkers, cyclists and kami-kazi commuters cutting many corners!  A very young deer narrowly missed extermination by the lead car but the fitted elephant whistle seemed to scare it off the road – or maybe it was the horn being peeped!  And a couple of pheasants took an age to move off the road near Brathens.
