The October Weekend

Saturday 3rd to Sunday 4th October 2015

Meet at 09:45 for a 10:15 departure
At
Sainsburys
Strathaven
ML10 6BA

Google Maps Link to Sainsburys Strathaven

For this year’s October outing we are taking in a bit of Ayrshire and a bit of the Borders over the 2 days, staying overnight at The Dryfesdale Country House Hotel which is near Lockerbie.

Cost will be £64.50 pp DBB with a £15 single supplement.

Unfortunately no café at Sainsburys but a comfort break before the start is available and of course fill up with fuel for the run.

Day 1 (156 miles) - From Strathaven the run takes us across to the Ayrshire Coast via Sorn, Catrine & Auchinleck before heading for New Cumnock then onwards to Girvan where we will have lunch at the Woodlands Bay Restaurant around 12:30hrs.

Setting off after lunch around 13:30hrs, we will leave the Ayrshire coast and head inland to Netwon Stewart, New Galloway, by-pass Dumfries to end at Lockerbie around 16:00hrs.

Day 2 (164 miles) - A leisurely departure time of 10:30hrs will see us heading first south then to the north along the Border of Kielder Forest for our lunch stop in Jedburgh at The Carters Rest around 12:30hrs.

After lunch we will cross country via Hawick and then down to Moffat for a final stop at the Moffat Mill for a cuppa around 15:00hrs.

Having covered around 280 miles by then, a fuel stop here will be undertaken at the Esso garage close by. Note petrol can be taken at Lockerbie if required.

After that we set off northwards for the end of the run near Lanark 40 miles further on at the Inn on the Loch.

Summary of stops

Lunch Day 1 – Woodlands Bay – sandwiches, sausage rolls, cake, tea or coffee at £7.50 pp.

Dinner Bed & Breakfast – Dryfesdale Hotel – already booked by those attending and Club offer now closed.  Additional rooms subject to Hotel availability (contact them direct on 01576 202427).

Lunch Day 2 – The Carters Rest – soup, sandwiches, tea or coffee at £6.50pp

Afternoon cuppa – Moffat Mill.

Here’s hoping the weather is good to take in the scenery on the routes.

The roads were great, the sun was out.

We ate and drank till we were full.
Replete and happy was the rule.

Thanks to Marcia and Raymond for allowing us to join you in the South West corner of your drive. Mathew(my son) and I certainly enjoyed the roads and the fact that we were not held up much and allowed to enjoy what mx5's are about. Mathew old tightened his grip once so I put this down to my good driving. See you all again in 2016

7th Oct 2015 22:45 :: Susan
