Pub Night & Run Kilsyth

Thursday 18th June 2015

A total of 10 cars with 17 accompanying drivers/passengers turned up at The Boathouse, Kilsyth for our Thursday pub meet and the first of our summer evening short runs round the Carron Valley. I travelled from Dunfermline and on joining the M80 met with slow moving traffic so decided to come off the motorway at Banknock and head to Kilsyth on the quieter A803. On entering Kilsyth I spotted a sign saying the road was closed between Kilsyth and  Tak-Me-Doon Road, the road we were due to take for our run.

On arriving at the Boathouse  there were several Mazdas already there. We met up with our fellow diners and it was soon obvious that others had also come that way and had seen the road closed sign, as Ian was busy on his Iphone looking for an alternate route.
Everyone else arrived shortly after. We were joined by new MX-5 owners Graeme and Joyce in their white 3.75 and Jean and George and Wendy and Sandy who were attending their 2nd and 3rd events respectively.

The meal was served although service was a bit slow and time was wearing on. Looking at the clouds outside it was pretty gloomy and damp and so after discussion it was felt that it was not a roof down night and as we would have to take a diversion it would be dark by the time we had completed the run, so run was cancelled.

However we had something to pass the time - it was Wattie’s 65th birthday and Jim and Maria had brought along a giant birthday cake. After singing him the obligatory happy birthday the shy unassuming Wattie cut up the cake for all to share.

A red Mk1 MX-5 turned up, driven by Michael accompanied by his 6 year old son Andrew to see what the club was all about. He was hoping to join the run as he was expecting to get his son to fall asleep in the car as he had his pyjamas on.

All those who were disappointed that the run was cancelled, I must say sorry - it is very unusual to do this, but do come along to the next event. I hope you enjoyed the evening anyway, and see you all again soon. Oh and Happy Birthday again auld yin.
