DETAILS

Ali and I arrived at the Birds & Bees at 7pm to be met with only one red Mk 1 and its owner James standing outside. James was new to the forum and turned up to find out about the club and also see if anyone was interested in buying his car. After chatting and advising him to post on the forum we went inside to see if anyone else had arrived before us. Gulp - no sign of anyone and I had reserved a table for ten!
Thankfully Chic and Heather arrived as I was at the bar, followed closely by Chris and David who brought along Archie from Alloa, who was also outside and had a very nicely refurbished red Mk2 which was the result of a 1.5 year project.
Susan arrived last and then it was down to the serious business of ordering food. After Chic and I sent back a couple of pints of decidedly sour Deuchers IPA, it was time to go to our table. Seven out of ten wasn’t bad.
Archie, who had also come along to find out about the club and was not eating, decided to leave at this point so I went outside to have a look at his car. After having seen ‘before’ pictures of rusty arches etc, the ’after’ result was very nice indeed.
Going back inside I noticed a green Mk1 and a red Mk 2 in the car park which I did not recognise so asked at the bar if anyone had asked for us, but they had no idea.
As we were waiting for our food another strange face came to our table and introduced himself as Stan - a newly joined club member from Rutherglen who was the owner of the red Mk2, and had come along with his wife Sheena. They joined us at our table and also brought along another new owner John who had also turned up on spec to find out more about us. I still have no idea who the green Mk1 belonged to.
A pleasant evening of good food, drinks and chat ensued before it was time for people to drift off for home.
It was good to meet up with new and prospective members who had an obvious liking for our favourite sports car.

Another very pleasant pub night with several new faces and some of our older (and younger!) familiar ones. Thanks everyone for coming and making it a good evening.
