The Three Counties Run

Sunday 8th June 2014

The sun was shining when 17 cars met up at Bowtrees Services, Kincardine.
After the usual pre run hellos and photo session we all set off for the Fife section following the north bank of the Forth through Culross and Torryburn towards Rosyth.
I took the low road and some took the high road, but I got to Torryburn afore ye.
We then proceeded past HMS Queen Elizabeth towards Inverkeithing and onwards through Crossgates and the lovely wee twisty road to Auchtertool with my navigator giving out very clear warnings over the radio that cars and a bus, correction a very big bus were coming. Radio directions carried on for the rest of the run in the same very concise manner.
Onwards through deepest west Fife and on to Leslie before heading towards Falkland through the Lomond Hills regional park, slightly spoiled by a Sunday driver in front holding our speed down.
Passing Falkland Palace and on to Freuchie we then headed to Cupar and our coffee and comfort stop at Cairnie Fruit Farm. The choice of scones, cakes and gateaux were really stupendous.

Suitably refreshed we headed off again northwards to the south bank of the Tay and a brilliant and scenic road from Wormit to Newburgh,  Abernethy and yes Ali it is Aberargie. On then towards Glenfarg before turning off on to narrow twisting single lane roads to Dunning. Happily we met very little traffic so the handling of the MX-5 was put to the test (at least for me and a few of the cars at the front!!!)

The journey to date had been roof down the whole way as we managed to skirt rain fronts but that came to an end before we turned on to the Glendevon road just past Auchterarder when the roofs had to come up and the rain stayed with us over Sheriffmuir towards Stirling and our late lunch stop at the Birds & Bees in Causewayhead.
The food at the restaurant was delicious and the venue was one to be used on future runs.

Thanks everyone for raffle prize donations and ticket buying - we raised another £90 for our chosen charities  - a great effort (Chic & Heather we also have more pants and bras for you - should that be Heather only?)
We had a great day and thanks everyone for making it so enjoyable.
