The Galloway Forest Run

This event is now closed to any new applicants.

Sunday 18th May 2014

Meet at 09:30 for a 10:00 departure

Meeting point

Robert Burns Birthplace Museum Car Park,
Murdoch's Lone,

For our May Sunday run we're heading west to explore the wonderful MX-5 roads in the Galloway Forest Area.

Leaving Alloway we head south on the A719 where we'll have the chance to experience the Electric Brae before taking the B7023 at Maybole. We'll then drive into the forest park passing Loch Moan before stopping at the Glen Trool Visitor Centre for a coffee and toilet stop.

After this stop we again head deeper into the forest park as far as Newton Stewart where we'll head north on the A712 (The Queen's Way) to New Galloway. After passing Earlstoun and Carsfad Lochs we turn onto the B729 passing Kendoon Loch before joining the A76 near Thornhill.

The final part of the run takes us to Cumnock to our late lunch stop at the The Woodlands Restaurant at Dumfries House . We plan to arrive at the lunch venue around 14:30 to enjoy their traditional Sunday Roast lunch (£14.95 per head).

Sandra and I had a great time today and enjoyed all aspects of the day. Well done to the organisers for a superb trip. I can't imagine any other roads being better suited to a brisk burst of speed in an MX5.  "Buddy" also enjoyed meeting the other cars ??????
