Hi-5s BBQ & Tech Day with FAB

OK – so let’s admit it!  A Tech Day it was not – but who cares!

We were planning a BBQ so obviously the weather wasn’t looking too great.  Fortunately it actually turned out to be a lot better than was expected.  Unfortunately we had a few call offs for one reason or another, Ally called late on in the day to tell us that her daughter was about to go into labour – almost acceptable!  Anyway 4 cars turned up for the day to join the two already in the garages, everyone bringing something nice to eat and drink along with them.  The party, as always, started in the kitchen and beers and wines were dispensed.  We then moved out onto the deck where the chatting and drinking continued whilst the charcoals were set in the BBQ hut.  It took about 45 minutes to get the Barbie up to cooking temperature so we had to continue drinking and chatting, but there didn’t seem to be too many complaints!

Once the smoke had cleared a bit Jean and Muriel venture into the Barbie hut and started cooking up what turned into a most excellent feast.  Fortunately the numbers were not too large and we all managed to squeeze into the hut and enjoy the warmth whilst we ate – and drank, of course.  The cooks seemed to forget to stop cooking and have something to eat themselves and it wasn’t long before second helpings were in place all round.

Frankie then took over and brought out her speciality for dessert – bread and fruit skewers coated in sugar and sprinkled with cinnamon. Just the smell as they caramelised on the BBQ was enough to set the taste buds in motion.  Served up with a generous dollop of Mackie’s ice cream was the perfect way to end the evening.

Unfortunately the evening was drawing to a close and some had a ways to get home so Frankie and I bade farewell to everyone and adjourned to the Hot Tub for a last soak before heading for bed.

A huge thank-you to everyone who joined us for the day, it was a lot of fun.  And an especially big thank you to Jean and Muriel who not only cooked up the feast but also insisted on washing the dishes as well – you can come again!!  Hi-5s everyone – from FAB.
