The Two Passes Run

Sunday 26th May 2013

When I planned this run I envisaged it to be fairly short to allow people to travel to get to the start point and to be able to travel home from the end point at a leisurely pace. Hence, we all met at Abington Services on a cloudy but not too cold Sunday morning.

The first leg of the run was up over the Mennock Pass via Leadhills and Wanlockhead. Some bizarre sights as sheep were licking the tarmac repairs and lambs excavating potholes.  There must be something in the water, as they say.

After Mennock Pass we went down through Nithsdale via a very minor road to Thornhill where we had a private dining room reserved for us at The Buccleuch & Queensberry Arms Hotel. After a nice relaxing lunch and the usual jovial banter amongst us cronies, as Wattie would call us, we headed back to Abington over the Dalveen Pass in a mixture of sun and cloud where everyone said their goodbyes before heading for home.

It was nice to see a good turnout for this run  and also to meet Jim and his daughter who joined us for the morning leg and for Stuart to come on his first run with his Father-in-Law or is that Outlaw?

At least the rain stayed away.

Thanks to Gavin & Jim for the run and meal organisation today. Hope you had a good 2nd pass run as we headed west in nye on empty roads. The sun stayed with us all the way home, hope you had the same. P.S. received an email from Mazda marketing the other day with the link to MX5 and frizzy throwing! It's on YouTube if you search.
