The Fish n' Chip Run

Sunday 24th February 2013

The day was cold but dry for our first run of the year. When we arrived at the car park Robert, Lesley and Chris were chatting to our new member Jim with his co-driver David. Old friends Neil and Jean came down from the Wheel as they were up for a coffee. Everyone else arrived in dribs and drabs and then at 13.10 we left the car park, we waited for another couple who did not arrive [Hope everything was ok]. The snow was threatening but our hardy lot had the roofs down as we set off. [The white stuff wasn't going to stop us.]

Clean Cars at the Falkirk Wheel

We began the run with 11 shiny showroom condition cars, we went through UFO land, Slamannan, Bathgate and over the Bangour road; there was no shine to be found on any of the cars when we stopped at Dobbies for a comfort break.

Dirty Cars at Dobbies

After the warm drinks and I shall not name the people who had HUGE buns too, we then set off down to Dechmont over the DUSTY hills skirting Linlithgow and up pass Cairnpapple, down towards Torphichen and then down the Avon gorge heading towards Linlithgow Bridge. We headed for Boíness but veered down Nether and North Kinneil having spectacular views of the River Forth and the Chemical factories at Kinneil and Grangemouth. We eventually arrived at Benny Tís as the shutters were going up. 11 dirty, dusty cars met with a lovely shiny car with Raymond and Marcia who came to joined us for Tea.

Fish & Chips at Benny t's

We were met with a warm welcome [as usual] from Mark the owner. After the orders were taken it was raffle time and £57.00 was collected for Erskine, our Charity of the year. Ali and Janet did a sterling job. A big thanks to all who donated a prize and bought the tickets. After the Fish & Chips some of us had the lovely Tablet Ice-cream Mmmmmm.

Lots of catching up time was had then it was time to say our good-byes. We all had another great day with great friends.

[Ok! Wattie some dirty roads, but after the Golf tomorrow you can wash Maizie then tuck her up nice and cosy in her garage.]
Hope to see you all at the next Pub night or run.
Drive safely

Yes, I admit it.  The camera never lies.  On the day it was us that had big buns.  You can take that any way you like.  Next time Jim, catch my good side where I bear a passing resemblance to George Clooney.
A good day out and we both enjoyed the run and meeting you all.  Looking forward to the next one.
