THE FALLS RUN
Following discussion at the last pub meet it was decided that perhaps we were being a little ambitious trying to organise a run all the way to Thurso and surrounding area at this time of year with such limited light etc. Our apologies to our friends in Thurso but we will put a North run on the calendar for when the nights get brighter in the new year, hopefully early Springtime! The Falls of Shin, Rogie,Corrieshalloch and Ullapool became the route of choice.
Below is the route drawn up by Shane....looks a cracker! Post your intent to join us please.
DFS car park IV2 3TZ to Falls of Shin IV27 4EE - 46 miles
Drive 18.1 miles north on the A9 then turn left onto the B9176 to Bonar Bridge.
Drive 15.2 miles on the B9176, then bear left onto the A836.
Drive 4.0miles to Bonar Bridge, cross bridge and begun left continuing on the A836 towards Lairg.
Drive 3.9 miles then turn left onto the A837
Drive 0.7 miles then turn right onto the B864
Drive 3.1 miles to the Falls of Shin
Restaurant and Falls of Shin
Travelling time @1 hour 20 mins
Distance 46 miles
Falls of Shin IV27 4EE to Ullapool Pier
Turn right out of car park.
Drive 0.7 miles then bear left towards the A837
Drive 1.1 miles then turn left onto the A837
Drive 6.0 miles then merge right continuing on the A837
Drive 18.5 miles to Ledmore Junction then turn left onto the A835
Drive 17.3 miles to Ullapool, turn right at shore to pier.
Travelling time @ 1 hour 15 minutes
Distance 44 miles
Ullapool Pier to Corrieshalloch Gorge
Drive 0.3 miles along Ullapool sea front then turn left onto the A835
Drive 11.5 miles to Corrieshalloch Gorge car park on left.
Walk @ 0.1 miles to falls
Travelling time @ 13 minutes
Distance 12 miles
Corrieshalloch Gorge to Rogie Falls
Turn left out Corrieshalloch Gorge car park onto A835
Drive 24 miles along A835 (towards Dingwall), to Rogie Falls car park on left.
Walk @ 0.5 miles loop to Falls.
Travelling time 30 mins
Distance 24 miles
Rogie Falls to DFS car park
Turn left out of Rogie Falls car park onto A835.
Drive 3.8 miles on A835 to wester Moy then turn right onto A832 heading for Muir of Ord.
Drive 4.7 mi into Muir of Ord
Turn right onto Great N Rd/A862 and drive 14.1 miles through Beauly and back into Inverness at Clachnaharry
Continue to follow A862 and Go through 1 roundabout
At the second roundabout,0.3 miles take the 1st exit onto A82 over the River Ness
At the roundabout, take the 4th exit onto Chapel St/B865
Continue to follow B865 up Academy St/B865
Continue to follow B865 along Milburn Road
Drive 1.0 mile to Milburn roundabout take second exit to DFS car park on left.
Travelling time 30 minutes
Distance 21 miles
Travelling total 1 hour 20 mins + 1 hour 15 mins + 13 mins + 30 mins + 30 mins
Total: 3 hours 48 mins
Stops: Total 2 hours 20 mins
Falls of Shin: 45 mins
Ullapool: 45 mins
Corrieshalloch Gorge: 20 mins
Rogie Falls: 30 mins
TOTAL RUN @ 6 hours 10 mins
Start at 10am back at 4.15pm

Temp +1C, all the 4x4's heading South and there we were heading North!! A really good last run of the year and only 30 mins with tops up.

Brilliant day out, they just get better & better. Thanks Shane for the planning - absolutely excellent!! Now we need to plan 2013 to top that lot!!

Had a great day like fab team said most of the day with hoods down the two wimps being Shane and Steve and it was Steve who was not keen on the bridge and got his own back on me talking spiders but we all had a good laugh and are last run memorable see you all at the Ramnee 2nd Dec and look forward to next year runs Wendy

Very very jealous. Looks like you all had a wonderful drive out.
All we had was the very limited delights of the A9 on Sunday and not even in the MX5 :-(
