The Perthshire Glens Run

Sunday 5th August 2012

Over the years the Perthshire Glens run has always been one of the popular events in the club calendar and this year was no exception. The weather report for the day intimated that it would be cloudy all day with showers and possibly thunder and lightning but that didnt stop 16 cars and 27 members turning up at the start point at Kinross.

We all welcomed new members Irene and Ian who had travelled all the way from Largs for their first club event. We also all drooled over Roberts brand spanking new Kuro special edition on its first club outing.

Once the formalities were over we all took to the road. Following the short drive to Milnathort we soon found ourselves on the twisty back roads heading via Path of Condie, Ardargie and Milltown of  Aberdalgie to Perth.  A few miles on the A9 and A85 to Methven and then again on MX-5 style back roads where we had the chance to stretch the legs of the cars all the way to The Sma Glen.  After passing Loch na Creige we pulled into the picnic area to take in the views of our wonderful country, that said everyone seemed more interested in the cars. After the drive through Aberfeldy and Grandtully we arrived in Pitlochry for lunch.

With the cars lined up in the theatre car park the hungry pack walked down to the Port na Craig Inn for some well-earned food and drink. Once wed munched though the venison sausages, fish n chips and goats cheese tarts accompanied by the usual MX-5 banter it was time for the raffle. We raised the fantastic sum of 73 which will be added to the money already raised for Ronald McDonald House. Many thanks to everyone who donated prizes and bought tickets, its very much appreciated.

After lunch, we had another opportunity to enjoy the spirited handling of our cars on the stretch between Pitlochry and Kirkmichael, which was fun, the only worry being the unpredictable sheep on the road. Driving on through Bridge of Cally, Blairgowrie, Stanley and Pitcairngreen soon found us at the end of the run in Perth.

As to the miserable weather forecast, well it turned out great. Apart from a few minutes light rain while we waited to re-group outside Blairgowrie it was tops down all day, the sun even shone.

Yet another brilliant day with a great bunch of friends, to Irene and Ian we hope you both enjoyed your first run and well see you again soon.
