[ show pre-run info ]

It must as they say be a sign of getting old, but it just does not seem like a year has gone by since we last all sat down to a Christmas lunch.
Traditionally the format has been find a restaurant in the East one year and one in the West the next, this has worked reasonably well, with the exception of one which was a little too far East, even for some of the Easterners. This year we decided to go Central and thus everyone would be happy, Stirling it would have to be then, which meant some of our North Scotland members could join us too.
Eighteen cars and thirty three members met up at The River House on the outskirts of Stirling, conveniently placed just off junction 10 of the M9 and what a superb venue this turned out to be. The restaurant is unique in its design, in that it looks like individual Crannogs on a loch side setting but when inside is very open plan and airy. Our party were seated at three large tables screened off from the rest of the diners and had sufficient room to move about after the meal without offending anyone.
The meal was first class in my opinion and everyone else seemed to back this up with the enthusiastic comments made later. After desserts it was time for Graeme and I to don the Santa hats and distribute the presents from our yearly 'Secret Santa?, which as usual provided a few funny moments. After the wrapping paper was collected up we chatted a bit over our coffee then it was time to head for home.
The River House has turned out to be one of the best locations in all respects for Christmas lunch and one which I'm sure all would be happy to use again, excellent food, professional service, beautiful surroundings, brilliant location and all that coupled with the warm and friendly company of our members made for a fantastic day.
Graeme and I would like to thank everyone for attending this event and wish you and your families a Merry Christmas
Douglas.
