"Burns the Return" Run

Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th September 2012

DETAILS


Meet at 10:00 for a 10:15 departure

At High Street,
Biggar.

SATURDAY:
On Saturday we will be meeting in Bigger at 10am for departure at 10.15am

We will be stopping at the Burns Museum in Alloway at lunchtime but no lunch has been booked. Lunches are available in the museum visitor centre which is self service or their is a tearoom near the Brig O Doon attached to The Brig O Doon hotel which is a five minute walk

We will spend approx 1hr 30min in Alloway in order that anyone who wishes to tour the Museum, Alloway Kirk, Burns birthplace, Brig O Doon or the Burns memorial may have a look at these.

Alloway Kirk, Brig O Doon and Burns memorial garden are free others have a charge unless you are a NTS member.

We hope to arrive at the hotel late afternoon to allow time for a rest and to freshen up before dinner which will be followed by a musical evening courtesy of Gordon and Ian.

We will be staying at the The Douglas Arms Hotel in Castle Douglas.

The hotel have agreed to hold a number of rooms for us for 4-6 weeks (from 07/06/12).

The hotel contact number is 01556 502231 and members should book direct with the hotel advising that they are with the MX-5 Owners Club and post up here once they have booked so we can keep track of room booking numbers.

STARTERS


Homemade scotch broth.

Arbroath  smokie pate served with oat cakes.

Haggis stuffed button mushroom in beer batter served with mashed potatoes & tarragon sauce.

MAINS COURSES

Roast Galloway Beef.
(Galloway beef cooked medium, served with roast vegetables, mash potatoes, Yorkshire pudding & gravy.)

Balmoral Chicken.
(Chicken baked with an oatmeal crust, served on clapshot with whisky sauce.)

Hot Langoustine Salad with garlic butter.
(Langoustine grilled with garlic butter served on a fresh crunchy salad.)

DESSERTS

Raspberry Chranachan.

Ecclefechan butter tart.

Local award winning ice cream.

Tea & Coffee

21.95 per person.


NOTE: If anyone requires a vegetarian meal could they please let us know in advance so that we can arange it with the hotel in advance.


SATURDAY EVENING ENTERTAINMENT:

The evening music after dinner will be by Fiddlers Leap (aka Gordon and Ian).

A raffle will be held with the proceeds this year going to.

Ronald McDonald House.

Donations of prizes are always welcome.



SUNDAY:
On Sunday we will leave the hotel at 10am with a stop in Dumfries for lunch. Once again we will stay in Dumfries for approx 1.30 minutes to allow for a visit to Burns sites such as The Globe Inn (where a short tour of the premises is available), Burn's House and The Burns Mausoleum.

Marcia has asked me to thank you all for "looking after her" and to the hard work put in by Chic & Heather (and perhaps more) in organising the event. I have been hearing all about it, including the raffle! Sorry to have missed it but hope to see you at the pub meet.

We had a great weekend - the run through Galloway Forest Park was terrific and the entertainmment on Saturday night was brilliant. Pity it rained on Sunday. Thanks to Chic, Heather and all the other contributors. Watch out I will be bringing the moaner along on Thursday pub night.

A super weekend with our MX5 cronies.Great roads just perfect for these wee cars. A brilliant night on Saturday with great entertainment.We had music, chat, poetry a few drinks and lots of laughter. Well done Heather and Chic cant believe how much effort you must have put into this event, I'd even go as far to say we learnt a lot on Burns we never knew before. The evening entertainment could not have been topped .Great fun Great company lots of laughs .......  Oh and Deborah we loved your cup cakes !
