Monthly Pub Meet and Mini Run

The Pirnhall Inn

Whins of Milton
Stirling

Thursday 4th August 2011

As itís now the middle of summer we thought we would try something a little bit different for the August pub meet. Instead of us all spending the evening simple eating, drinking and chatting about everything under the sun, why donít we include a run as well. The Carron Valley would provide our driving thrills and the Pirnhall Inn our sustenance, so thatís the planning sorted.

The weather looked pretty grim during the day leading up to the event and it looked like the run might be cancelled. Thankfully things improved and the sun shone as we drove to Stirling. When we arrived at the Inn it was packed with diners, we didnít expect it to be this busy, would we even manage to get a table. Undaunted Jacqueline talked to the Maitre dí who happily arranged a table for us all, relief, I didnít relish the thought of telling the hungry hoard of MX-5írs that they couldnít eat.  The cars then started to roll in to the car park with their owners all looking forward to a fun evening. It was great to meet James with his smart black Mk2.5, as this was his first MX-5 Scotland event he was warmly welcomed into the assembled group.

No wonder the Inn was busy with an all you can eat Indian Buffet for only £5.99 each it looked like a bargain to us. Well we dully got stuck in and did our very best, returning time after time until nearly bursting point.

After too much food, drink, laughter and chat it was time for the run, with the cars tops all down and engines fired up we were ready to go. We headed up the twisting back roads to Carron Bridge where we crossed over onto the Tak-ma Doon Road to Kilsyth. After driving through Queenzieburn, Milton Of Campsie and Lenoxtown it was onto the Crow Road and up into the Campsie hills. After a quick blast up the hill (avoiding the sheep) we stopped at the viewpoint car park where we chatted and admired each otherís fine machines. The run continued along the Carron Valley whizzing through the traffic lights and along the side of the reservoir to the end point back at the Pirnhall Inn.

Yet another excellent evening enjoyed by all.
