Not the Moray Scone Run, 21 August 2011

Six cars gathered at Morrisons, Inverurie to head west on sporting roads for a cup of tea..........Malcolm & Marty led, followed by Stuart & Helen, Skinnydoug, James Steven, Andy & Margaret and Graham K.

Insch, Kennethmont and Rhynie passed under our wheels, before we took the more southerly Cabrach route to Dufftown where we had a comfort stop – after only an hour!  From Dufftown, Aberlour, Glenlivet, Bridge of Brown and Nethybridge quickly took us to the Jack Drake Alpine Nursery at Kincraig where we scoffed tea and gateaux while watching a red squirrel and loads of Chaffinches, Siskins, Blue Tits  etc. gorge themselves on peanuts.  Sadly, the woodpecker I saw last Sunday decided to stay away today!

Then our wee drama started.........James’s supercharged Mk2.5 wouldn’t restart.  We tried to bump start it and then towed it but it wasn’t offering to fire up.  The AA man was called.  We were given an ETA and, five mins. before he was due to arrive, James tried again and it worked!  Cancel the AA man!  We then headed for a very late lunch at Tomintoul via Carrbridge, Grantown, Upper Knockando and the Beatshach over the east shoulder of Ben Rinnes.

After much needed sustenance, we made to leave for the final leg to Inverurie.  James’s car fired up.....and stopped – twice!  It then refused to fire.  He decided we should carry on and he would wait for the plugs to dry out.  We await news of the outcome!  Andy & Margaret stayed with him, at least for a while, and the rest of us made our way to the Lecht, Donside, Tillyfourie and Monymusk to the finish at Inverurie.  Skinnydoug had peeled off at Corgarff and Graham K at Cushnie.

We had two brief showers when stationary but otherwise the weather was really good.  The peanut gateau was safely delivered to The Pram – we departed before it was scoffed!

Happy to say everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and were delighted to be introduced to a new tearoom!

Glad you enjoyed the route Graham.  Hope James got home OK.  Guess there will be a surfeit of plug spanners on the next run!
And at least I was able to play with my tow rope!

No one else had expressed a great sadness at missing out on the peanut gateau!
