Maggie's Run

Sunday 13th February 2011

For the first run of 2011, 14 members met on a drizzly Sunday morning in North Queensferry. Ian Ness arrived determined to show off his new toy,now he can get it up while he is on the move!

The weather couldn't dampen our spirits and soon we headed off on our route through the West Fife coast, taking in the scenic delights of the pretty village of Culross and the not so pretty Grangemouth refinery. Ian had an excuse to use his new toy when the rain came on. Picking up Robert and Susan on the way we headed on to South Queensferry for a scenic stop, where we got the usual strange looks.

Then it was on to our lunch stop at the Cramond Brig just on the outskirts of Edinburgh. We had a lovely relaxed lunch, which was quieter than normal due to Wattie having manflu. Get well soon Walter!

Then it was time to head to Maggies at the Western General to hand over our cheque. We were given a warm welcome from the Centre Lead, Andy Anderson and Volunteer Jim. We were treated to tea and biscuits and Andy gave an explanation of the services that the centre provides. They require between 3 - 400,000 a year to continue their work. We then handed over our 680 cheque with plenty photos.

Many thanks to all MX5 owners across the regions, Central, Grampian, Tayside, Highland & Moray, Tyne Tees and Yorkshire Ridings for contributing their share of raffle proceeds.

Many thanks also to Andy and Jim for taking time on a Sunday to meet us all.

Many thanks to Dot, Chas and Gavin for organising the first run of 2011. It was so good to get out with everyone again after what seems like a very long winter.

An excellent lunch was also enjoyed at the Cramond Brig, with huge portions of hearty homemade food. This is definitely a good venue to use in the future.

Another good day out with good company and good food, would be be good to use the Cramond Brig again, not because it's 2 minutes down the road from us, honest!!

I have dragged myself from my sick bed to add my comment.  It was nice to get back on the roads with with our MX5 cronies.Another good venue for lunch and the company was not bad either. Thanks to organisers as usual. Will get back to bed now and hope to be in better form at our next outing.Wattie & Janet.

Oops! I think I infected Walter with my bug sorry![Maria]
Anyway thanks to Dot,Chas & Gavin for organising the run. I felt very humble when I was at Maggies, the people do a fantastic support care. It was a pity that the Christmas Party was cancelled as we could have given even more money.Perhaps we can do a special 'Christmas'
raffle one day.
Good to see everyone again.
Maria & Jim
