The first Pub Night of 2011 looked as if it might have fallen foul of the winter weather, as storm force winds and torrential rain battered the Edinburgh area. But our intrepid members didnít let us down, even though many were stuck on the Edinburgh by-pass due to accidents and heavy traffic, everyone eventually arrived safely at the golf club.

Eagerly waiting to greet everyone at the front door were Sue and Gordon, our hosts for the evening. Iím sure they were relieved to see such a good turnout considering the weather and the time of year.

As this was the first time many of us had met up this year, it was wonderful to see so many handshakes, hugs and kisses and Happy New Yearís going around.

Also made very welcome into the group were some new members attending their first ever club event:

Jen and Drew with their very smart Mk1 1.8 S-spec.
Euan with his Mk1 1.8 V-spec.
Ali and Drew with their Mk3 Roadster Coupe Sport.

We hope you all had a great evening and look forward to seeing you all on one of our runs soon.

Following a drink or two and everyone catching up on all the news from the last couple of months, it was time for dinner. With a new chef in place at the club, Gordon had assured us we were in for a treat and he was true to his word. Plate after plate of delicious homemade food soon appeared from the kitchen to the waiting hungry crowd. Scrummy Salmon Chive & Gruyere fishcakes, tender Braised steak on cabbage mash and succulent Pan fried Loin of Pork certainly hit the spot with everyone.

The main course was followed by equally delicious Creamed rice pudding with strawberries, Warm Chocolate Fudge Cake & Cream and Cheese & Biscuits.

I think everyone agreed that this was the best meal weíve ever had at Craigmillar, fantastic homemade food at a modest price.

Once our need for food was satisfied the rest of the evening was spent chatting around the tables. There was a lot of reflection on the 2010 event year and how enjoyable it had been, everyone was also eagerly looking forward to the spring weather and us all getting back out top down in the sunshine once again.

As for the suggested initiation ceremony that all the newbies were to be subjected to, this amounted to being subjected to our resident double act Wattie and Jimís special form of humour, they definitely had us all in stiches during the evening.

Yet another very successful event, our thanks go out to Sue and Gordon and all the staff at The Craigmillar Park Golf Course for making us all welcome once again.

We both agree. Got home safely about 11.15 after a slight brush with a fallen tree.  First time at golf club but will not be the last.

Thanks for a good evening.  It was good to put some names to faces. All going well I hope to see some of you on one of the runs.

I think I met the same tree as Gordon and Moira on the way back!

We had a lovely evening meeting new faces (and Gordon & Sue again after at least 10 years)
We newbies survived the initiation but I will have to make sure Wattie gets his double rum and coke at the next pub meet.
