The Mazda MX-5 Miyako Launch

Wednesday 18th August 2010

The club was recently invited to take part in the evening launch of the new MX-5 Miyako special edition from Phoenix Mazda in Paisley, an invitation we couldn't pass up.

When we arrived before the 7pm start time the only cars to be found in the showroom were gleaming MX-5's, with even more parked outside. We then set about setting up our club stands and flags, in readiness for the invited public arriving.

Advertised as the ultimate wake-up call for your senses, parked in the showroom the Mazda MX-5 Miyako Special Edition in velocity red mica was certainly a great looking car. Also in the showroom was a silver Miyako roadster coupe, and outside a Miyako available to road test.

With the prospect of winning some spectacular prizes some of our members entered the most beautiful MX-5 competition. Others enjoyed the very tasty sushi, washed down with some saki and fine wine. But for many the highlight of the evening was the martial arts demonstration by Kesshin Bujinkan Dojo. These guys were brilliant to watch, I admired the dedication and effort they must all have put in over the years to reach such a high level of skill.

The car competition was judged by Phoenix's dealer principal Peter Mustard along with MX-5 Owners Club area coordinators Charles Kennedy and Ian Ness. The winners were as follows:

1st Prize of a holiday for two was won by Kurt Eddy (Non club member) for his stunning Mk3.

2nd Prize of 100 was won by John Hetherton (Non club member) for his immaculate Mk2.5

3rd Prize of lunch for two at Duck Bay was won by our very own Gordon Thomasson for his well polished Mk2.5

All in all this was a really enjoyable evening which has also strengthened the bond between this dealership and the owners club.

On behalf of everyone from the club I wish to thank Peter Mustard and all his staff for the invite and making us all welcome.

I would like to thank Phoenix Mazda for the prize and a great evening. I enjoyed talking to the club members about their cars and just meeting friendly people. Hope to see you all soon at one of your outings.

A good night. Met someone I had been to school with, someone I sold a house to and someone I sold a car to (who won a prize). It has to be a big thanks to Phoenix for arranging it and I hope that we can keep a good relationship with them in the future.
