Gullane Games Day
Sat 7th Aug 2004
organised by Central Scotland

Car Count : 12

[ show pre-run info ]

I was a little worried about this weekend, firstly due to the bad weather experienced the week before, and secondly it being a Saturday (with most of our runs being on Sundays). Still I shouldn't have worried, the sun shone brightly and people turned out. We had 5 cars meet us at Tesco's to begin the treasure hunt - including some new faces (sorry, my memory fails me on your names!). The cars were dispatched at intervals and had around 2hrs of mind numbing clues ahead of them. The hunt would lead them through some of East Lothian's villiages, along some twisty roads, ending up in Gullane in time to display the cars at the local Games Day.

Gullane Games is held every year, and is a week full of events, culminating in the Games Day. We started setting up before any of the 5 cars returned from the treasure hunt, Graeme and Christine had brought along the club gazibo which provided shade as well as marking our territory! The cars started arriving back slowly, with one particular member taking around 3hrs. Later we were joined by some other 5's who had not taken part in the treaure hunt, and we ended up with 12 cars displayed on the childrens' golf course. Also on display were some vintage cars, and some Harley Davidsons which all added up to quite a display. As the day wore on we were visited by many adults and kids, who were allowed (with owners permission) to sit in the cars, and on occasion press some buttons!?? Thanks to Christine for scoring the treasure hunt sheets, and after a rundown of the answers, it was revealed that Chic & Heather were the winners! (no prize I am afraid, but its a pride thing!!)

It had also been decided that we would hold the 'best in region' voting at Gullane, and in a change to previous years, that we would allow the public to choose which car they like best. Almost 100 voting slips were handed out, and duly returned. Congratulations to Graham Bell who won the trophy this year, also many thanks must go to Mino for doing a superb job in refurbishing the trophy!

The sun was out all afternoon, and I hope that everyone enjoyed the day. The Games Committee were very impressed by the display, and wish to express their thanks to the club, for helping make the day a success.
