For our bi-monthly easterly pub meet we returned to the Craigmillar Golf Club in Edinburgh, and another themed evening. But what would it be this time?
Starting way back in January, the chef and Gordon delighted us all with the first Italian theme night, followed by an exotic Indian night in March. Having really enjoyed the excellent food on both of these evenings our expectations were high for yet another culinary delight when the Spanish theme was announced.

The menu was then advertised on the website.

Guisado de Chorizo, Morcilla y Garbanzos.
Fritata Espanola.
Riz con Pimientas.

Followed by

Creme Catalan

All for the amazing price of only £7.50 per head.

It was looking good for a big turnout. Hopefully we would fill the car park with MX-5’s. Unfortunately, a certain Mr Gordon Brown decided to hold a general election on the same day. How inconsiderate! Surely with all of the advisers available to him, at least one of them could have looked at our website and noted that we had an event scheduled for that evening.

Nevertheless, eleven hungry people from different political persuasions and continents turned out to vote on the evening’s offering. The furthest travelled were Steve and his son Mark all the way from Auckland, New Zealand, allegedly on holiday in Scotland, but I suspect the reputation of our theme nights has now traversed the globe and had something to do with it. They were both warmly welcomed by everyone. Mark definitely fitted in well being a real petrol head. It sounds like they have a more relaxed attitude to motoring down under going by his experiences.

Following some light refreshment accompanied by the usual MX-5 banter, we all went to the polling booth (table) to vote. Would it be a landslide victory for the Guisado de Chorizo, could the Fritata just manage to take the lead or would Gordon be hung? Listening to all the yum yum noises it looked like it would be a close run race. Eventually the polls closed and the votes were counted. The tension could be felt in the room as the winner was announced. Taking 100% of the vote the chef’s Spanish meal was the outright winner. Yet another fabulous meal enjoyed by everyone.

The evening continued with enthusiastic talk about some of our future events, mainly “The Spring Rally” in Northern Ireland and “The Gathering” in July. Everyone is now getting very excited about flying the Scottish flag and making a kilt clad presence in Stormont (the men, not the ladies).

To Steve and Mark, it was great having you there. We hope you both enjoyed the evening.

To Gordon and all the Staff at the golf club, once again we can’t thank you enough for all the hard work and thought that you put into these evenings. It is very much appreciated.

We’ll be returning to Craigmillar on the 1st of July, rumour has it that it may be a Moroccan theme this time. These evenings really are a great way to get to know club members and to share the passion we all have for the cars in a very relaxed atmosphere, so please feel free to join us.
