Tech Day & BBQ

Sunday 3rd Octoberber 2010

For the third and final Tech Day of 2010 we decided to bring the date forward from its traditional November slot to the beginning of October to take advantage of the normally better weather. Great plan, pity the weather gods didnít agree with us. With very heavy rain at the start of the day things didnít look very promising, but the Met Office website did indicate an improvement into the afternoon.

Undaunted by the elements seven cars still arrived at the start point in Stirling full of enthusiasm for the day ahead. We all welcomed Colin into the group as this was his first ever event with the club before heading off to the Tech Day venue.

After a slow twenty minute drive (held up by horse boxes and traffic) we all arrived at the venue to be met by Eileen and Richard our hosts for the day. No time was wasted as Suzzieís car was guided into the garage for the first job of the day a defective electric aerial. The fault was expertly detected but as the required parts werenít to hand the repair couldnít be completed. It was the time for Davyís very smart Mk1 to enter the garage this time with a defective handbrake. After a short time it was driven out by Davy with a big smile on his face and also with a working handbrake. Due mainly to the renowned reliability of MX-5ís there wasnít any other jobs to be done so some more bonnets were opened and engines looked at by all the guys present, canít understand why most of the ladies donít find this part interesting. Both Colin and Davyís Mk1ís received most attention as theyíre both very good looking cars.

With all the hard work done it was then time to head for the traditional Tech Day BBQ where our resident head mechanic changed roles to become head chef. Unfortunately due to other commitments I had to leave before the burgers were ready but Iím sure they were enjoyed by everyone.

Even though the weather was against us, this turned out to be yet another good event.

To Colin we all hope you enjoyed your first event and that youíll join us on another event soon.

To Eileen and Richard many thanks once again for your brilliant hospitality, it is very much appreciated by us all.

It was nice to meet some more members today, and can only echo the thanks for the great hospitality.

I am now going to head to Asda this week for some Pork & Chorizo sausages - yum!

I hope Cara the dog got her share of the leftovers ;o)

I even managed the roof down from Blair Drummond all the way back to Penicuik.

Thanks again, Steven

Well, that was a strange experience.  From about Doune, all we could see was MX5s going the other way.  Was it something we said?

Thanks to R&I for their warm welcome and blether to us latecomers.
Gordon & Sue.

PS Sun came out after you all abandoned barbie.
