"Welcome to the Borders"
The hilly inhospitable lands that border England and Scotland. Where the borderline was a blurred misty murderous and disputed hilly country for centuries.
This is the home of the Border Reivers who terrorised their neighbours, the English, for centuries. The reivers were, local families, not unlike the highland clans, whose only method of survival was to loot, steal and murder in order to survive their harsh way of life. Their main targets were their neighbours o'er the border but were not averse to having a go at their pals up the road.
The annual common ridings celebrate each areas riding of the town boundaries to protect themselves from these marauders.
We'll travel some of the best and less travelled roads and hopefully see some of the landmarks and places where these "scamps" operated.
On the Saturday night we'll be staying in Denholm which is a small village between Jedburgh and Hawick. The Auld Cross Keys Inn had twelve rooms available now all booked (See below for alternative accomodation).
Not only are Gordon and Ian brilliant run organisers, they’re both very accomplished musicians. They're also weel kent faces in the Borders folk scene with their band Fiddlers Leap. During the evening they’ll be performing some of their favourite songs.
Click here for a prelude of what you can expect.
The Cross Keys Inn tariff is £25.00 pppn or £40.00 DBB per person. NOW FULLY BOOKED
The hotel has an excellent reputation locally for its food and hospitality and we have private car parking at the rear.
Please contact them direct on 01450 870305 and mention you're taking part in the MX5OC run.

Wow. So many of us just batter on down south using the main arteries in to England and just do not appreciate what lies in between. It has taken our true borderers Gordon and Moira and Ian and Fiona to show us what we have been missing all these years of heading north. What fantastic roads and countryside lies hidden just a few miles off the beaten track. A good time was had by all and Britney even made an appearance and I'll never be able to look at a Dyson vacuum cleaner in the same light again. You just had to have been there.
