The New Year Run Mk2

Sunday 25th April 2010

Well, the 2010 New Year run has finally happened, only 3½ months late. Following the terrible road conditions on the original 3rd of January date, it was decided to cancel the event and reschedule it for a later date when the weather would be better. The 25th of April was duly decided upon.

The weather forecast for the weekend looked very promising. In fact on Saturday the sun shone all day allowing me to clean and polish the car to within an inch of its life just for the run. Imagine my disappointment to wake up on Sunday morning to heavy clouds, rain and filthy roads .

Undaunted, we set off to the start point at South Queensferry, to find two lonely MX-5’s sitting in the wet car park. Was this going to be another disaster? Will everyone stay at home due to the weather? I needn’t have worried, in true MX-5 Scotland tradition our faithful band of tough petrol heads started to arrive swelling our number to 12 cars.

After a short wet briefing, we started our engines and headed over the Forth Bridge and into deepest Fife. We were then joined by Stella and Nigel accompanied by their gorgeous granddaughter Amelia sitting in their blue and red sporty numbers. We were now 14 cars strong. Winding our way to Saline (Janet played a round there –golf of course) then onto the B914 towards Kelty, we turned onto the Loch Glow road. Normally this elevated road has glorious views of Loch Leven and the surrounding countryside, unfortunately not today - grey mist and rain!

The run continued around Loch Leven, through Scotlandwell and Kinnesswood to Glenfarg, where we again turned onto some interesting back roads all the way to Kintillo. As we always wish to please our members, the next section was included to allow Gordon to drive through the village of Forteviot where his mother hails from, allowing a short trip down memory lane. The last leg of the run finally provided some dry top down motoring over the Pass of Condie (avoiding the turnips on the road – real turnips, not bad drivers!) and on to our lunch destination at the Harviestoun Hotel, Tillicoultry where we were joined by Eileen and Richard.

Lunch as always was well received by everyone as we all tucked into the hearty meal amidst the normal MX-5 Scotland banter. Many thanks to Wattie who assisted with the raffle, his personal style of distributing the prizes turned out to be a big hit with the ladies , many of whom were desperate to win multiple prizes.

The raffle was held in aid of Maggies Cancer Care and club funds which raised £68.00 and brings the total from 4 events this year to £263.00. As ever thanks again to all who contributed both in providing prizes and buying tickets.

To Susan and Michelle, we all hope you had an enjoyable first run with the club and that we will see you both again soon.

Another great day only slightly spoiled by the weather.

Good day, shame the weather didnt brighten up a bit more, the views would have been superb had the sun been out! Nice to see everyone again, including new members. I have some concerns over the results of the prize draw though!! :-)

Hey Jon did you really want a kiss off Watty?? Good day and good food. The only reason we had our hood down all the time was to hear our new larini exhaust. It was only alittle wet.

Fun day, food was great, pity the weather wasn't brighter.  Looks like I got away with the minor detour into the lay-by cunningly disguised as a slip road ;-)

No you didn`t Carol but I was far to polite to mention it. Another good run despite the poor weather. Good company and another great lunch venue. Thanks to Ian and Jaqueline for the hard work as usual. Looking forward to helping again at the next raffle if you really need me.

Michelle and I really enjoyed our first jaunt out with the club, despite the weather! Plan on attending a good few more outings although don't have a co-pilot for Argyll so will probably miss out on that one :(
