Tech Day & BBQ

Sunday 21st February 2010

It’s been a long hard winter in the MX-5 world with many of our planned events having to be cancelled or rescheduled to later dates due to the rain, ice and snow. But finally, we’ve managed to hold the first outdoor 2010 event. With the temperature on the low side and the sun shining brightly around two dozen members in 17 cars (including two from the NSS area) braved the elements to attend the first Tech Day of the year.

It was also great to see some new faces attending their first event.

Alan and Helen - Silver Mk1
Michael - Red Mk1
Ian and Aillen- Red Mk2
Brian - Silver Mk1 (I think this is correct, my apologies if not)

We hope you all had an enjoyable day and we’ll see you all again soon.

Much admired by many was Rick’s newly restored bright atlantis blue Mk1 as featured in the “This is the story of a colour change” article on the website. I have to say the car looks brilliant no wonder Rick walked about with a smile on his face all day, a very proud owner.

Bonnets were raised and engines tinkered with during the afternoon. As always our MX-5 guru Richard was on hand to assist with many of the technical jobs carried out. A talented man, he then moved on to his role as head BBQ chef, who says men can’t multi task.

As to the fairer sex, well they all seemed to disappear into Richard and Eileen’s new RV turning it into what seemed like a corporate entertainment centre. The hospitality within was certainly enjoyed by many.

Following a very tasty BBQ, Iain Fleming presented us all with our new event shelter and sail banners.

As these shelters are being rolled out nationally to all areas, a lot of photographs were taken during assembly to allow Iain to produce an instruction manual. I can’t wait to go to an event now and set up our stall, we should look really swish and professional, creating a great image for the club.

Many thanks to Eileen and Richard for opening up their home, offering technical help and providing the BBQ. It is very much appreciated by us all.
