NSS Mini-run to Anstruther
Mon 11th May 2009
organised by Tayside Scotland

Car Count : 10

[ show pre-run info ]

The ideal run will be sunny, dry and warm. We may only have achieved 2 out of 3 for our first evening mini-run, but this was quickly forgotten as a superb turnout arrived at the car park at the south end of the Tay Road Bridge. With Alan R's request to bring his MX-5 as he didn't own a mini still ringing in Colin's ears, he led the convoy out and along the Tay through Tayport and back inland to Cupar. As Malc said, it was an "odd route" but hopefully one which provided some nice twisties. Entering Cupar, we wheeled left and up over the hills past the Peat Inn (we had finer dining on our minds) and down towards the East Neuk where a superb vista of the Forth was displayed before us.

The Anstruther (Ainster to the locals) Fish Restaurant is one of the UK's most award-winning chippers. Although each participant will have his/her own opinion of how deserved that is, after a less-then-award-winning wait in the queue we devoured our well-earned dinners gathered on the harbour in a surprisingly mild evening (although a thinly clad Callie would disagree!) and watched the sun start to set. With some of our number deciding to keep their roofs up (hereafter known as the club jessies) Colin led us back up the Fife coast through St Andrews back over the Tay Bridge before spreading Red Arrow-like in our various directions. We returned a little later than planned, but the chipper queue will be blamed for that!

Colin would like to thank all who turned up to make our first mini-run such a success: Neil and Callie from Monifieth who joined us for the first time, Alex, Ian and Ali who returned after their first full event or just the seasoned veterans (you know who you are), and would appreciate your feedback on how to fine-tune this type of event. He'd also like to thank Elaine for remembering the wet wipes so he didn't smear chip fat all over his new motor; come on, you expected one reference to it!

Excellent little run - it was lovely, driving home into the sunset. How times have changed - one can have sauce tartare with ones fish & chips nowadays.

Ok its a fair cop - we went for a cosy trip home - promise to try harder next time. Excellent night - thoroughly enjoyed it and managed to get a couple of good\'ish sun set snaps whilst on the move heading home. Actually that\'s why we had the roof up to reduce the vibration for the photography - yer right!!!!!!!

Superb run yet again. Could get used to this, good weather, grub, company. If this keeps up, I could maybe lighten the car by losing the hood and wipers. The heater stays though. You did miss a good run Colin, hopefully you'll be back on the road well before the next one.

I still can't believe I'm the only one who cracked a joke about Minis.  But anyway, it was a great run - let's have more of the same.  didn't you suggest ice cream next time, Colin?  Anyone got any ideas?

Colin, I think the wet wipes removed more tomato ketchup than grease!  ;-)
