Sunday 6th September 2009

After meeting at Newbridge and receiving a route update from Jim, we headed off around the south eastern perimeter of Edinburgh to arrive at Rosslyn for lunch.

An enjoyable and relaxed lunch was eaten before we headed back into the centre of Edinburgh and despite our convoy being broken up a few times at lights and roundabouts we managed to arrive together at Holyrood.

Jim and Alison led us into the Parliament building and after passing through security they conducted us through the various Parliament areas including areas not usually accessible to the public. While in the debating chamber Jim gave us an insight into the workings of the parliament, its recording and voting methods and how it feels to be constantly under the view of the cameras.

A number of photo opportunities of Enric Miralles' design concept were available from locations not normally seen and Jim's knowledge of the building gave an insight into how functional the unusual design is.

Hopefully all who attended now have an insight into the construction and the workings of the Parliament which may change any stereotypical thoughts they had of it from the press coverage previously read.

Thanks to Jim and Alison for once again giving up their free time to guide us through the tour

Thank you for the kind comments, I really enjoyed putting the day together.

I am glad everyone enjoyed their day at 'their parliament' and that they hopefully came away with a more informed view of the institution, the building and how it works so well.

I am also amazed that, despite the last minute changes, no one got lost en route.
