NEW YEAR RUN

Friday 2nd February 2009

REPORT

What a great start to the 2009 season, with 12 cars and 19 enthusiastic members assembled at Newhouse for the start of the New Year run.

John, who planned the days run, obviously knows the area like the back of his hand. We travelled all the way to our lunch stop at Peebles mostly on very enjoyable quiet back roads. For some of the group, it was their first run and the weather was kind to us as even the sun came out for a short time.

After 44 miles avoiding the potholes and ice, we arrived at the Tontine Hotel in Peebles where we were joined by Lorna and Ron with their very tidy Mk 2 10th Anniversary. The hotel was welcoming and our dining room was impressive with a real fire to warm us up. The excellent food and friendly staff made it a relaxed and enjoyable lunch in good company.

I'm sure I speak for everyone in thanking John and Heather Sim for planning the event, you did a great job at very short notice. A special thanks also goes out to John who travelled all the way down from Montrose (North Scotland (South) Section) to join in the run.

We both enjoyed our first run with you all. Nice lunch, interesting route thanks to John & Heather. Our car has now had its christening. A mind blowing 182 miles in one trip(unprecedented)it got dirty for the first time and yes its now well and truely run in. I can now  proceed cautiously to open the car up to a maximum of 35mph.!!!!

I would have loved to come (this might be the 1st new year run I've  missed) but my baby has been off the road for over a month after an accident. Can't wait to get her back.
Happy New Year to all

Thanks to John and Heather for organising the run and a good brief before it too.
I will never complain about the roads up here again... well not til next week.
It was excellent to cover about 200 miles today in my wee green cracker.
The best bit was meeting some old acquaintances and making new ones.
Tom.... Richard... Kevin.. Bill.... what a great start to the new year (Apart from seeing Sandi Thom and Amy Macdonald free in Aberdeen on Hogmanay !!). Who says the Aberdonians are tight (Probably all the tight Dundonians!)
I will definately be coming on some of your Central runs again.
Roxy, get that car on the road ASAP !
