It was supposed to be a recce for the National and it was.

It was supposed to give us timings for the run on Friday 12 Sept and it did.

It was supposed to iron out difficulties with numbers,  catering and the precise route and it did that too, so it might sound  more like work than fun, but it wasn?t.

It was, basically,  just a damn good run in brilliant weather and with good company.

Five cars left Newbridge and headed north up the M90 to Perth. We picked up one en route and met four more,  including Alan and Maureen on their first club run in their bronze,  at Perth with a hastily arranged detour.

Back on track, we swept through Dunkeld, Ballinluig and Aberfeldy before stopping for lunch at Kenmore. The second half of the run was where Mother Nature stepped into the spotlight with mountains and lochs, waterfalls and forests. All the time the sun shone, contrary to the forecast. A single track road from Fearnan to Killin around the back of Ben Lawers had me wishing I could stop for pictures, for there can be no better backdrop to a line of MX-5s than the steep hillsides and dammed lochs that we passed on this trip.

Then, from Lochearnhead, where a couple of cars departed to take a quicker route home, to Crieff and Auchterader, where three more headed north, before the four remaining cars headed down through Gleneagles to Knockhill and Dunfermline.
