Arrochar Run
Sun 16th Mar 2003
organised by Central Scotland

Car Count : 30

[ show pre-run info ]

Like an MX-5 theme park, 30 MX-5s followed roller coaster roads up and down in a criss cross pattern around the Faslane Naval base. Pity the learner driver, taken along a single track road for his one hour driving lesson, (because that road is always quiet, especially on a Sunday), having to sit still while thirty topless 5?s drove past.

We met some new people, out on their first run and we reacquainted ourselves with Gavin?s hat (?it?s the woollaff!?), complete with red nose. A couple of trips past the Naval Base and, sure enough, a helicopter appeared. It could have been a coincidence, as could the two or three police cars scattered around the route.
We packed out the hotel for lunch, which was simple but good: battered haddock, steak and ale pie. The 5 Easter eggs were raffled and won and we were on our way again. More twists and turns and sheep avoiding. More trips through the same junction in different directions and all the time the sun beat down. It?s the first time I?ve caught the sun in March. The flying jacket was relegated to the boot after lunch and only re-emerged at the end of the run.

The end of the run, as always, came too soon at Lomond Shores, Loch Lomond, where we split to go our separate ways.

Hats off to Alan and Douglas for organising a great day out and big respect to the thirty drivers for keeping together yet not disrupting the traffic.
