Slopes of Schiehallion Run
Sun 8th Jun 2008
organised by Tayside Scotland

Car Count : 10
[ show pre-run info ]

After a cloudy start to the day, summer arrived with a vengeance to welcome our second NSS run of the season. Full of coffee or bacon rolls (and eying up the truckers' full fry-ups) 10 cars, including Graeme, Shandy, Ann and Anne on their first outing with us, headed North from the Horse Shoe Cafe and into the hills. Slowing to admire Malc's Meikleour Beech Hedge we drove North West across the A9 and skirted Aberfeldy, then took a brief stop at a beautiful viewpoint above Kenmore. There then ensued some nifty camerawork while we tried to capture as many cars and members as possible while avoiding the Peugeot who found himself in the midst of us. The Kenmore hotel did us proud: after a drink on the terrace we were ushered into a function room (perhaps aware of the troublemakers in our group) and presented us with personalised club menus. After what turned out to be a very satisfying lunch we headed up to Tummel Bridge and, after pausing briefy to admire one of Scotland's finest vistas at the Queen's View, we drove down to Pitlochry before turning east across the Moulin Moor.  Delaying this run until now allowed us to avoid the lambing season of a couple of months ago and we managed to negotiate our way between the moor sheep while leaving all human and fleecy life intact. Finally we dropped down through Blairgowrie and Coupar Angus back towards Dundee where we somehow managed to split into 3 splinter groups who all managed to find our way back to the Swallow Hotel.
Many thanks to Malc who organised a superb route and hotel and to those who attended, making this a very successful run, apart from the new walkie talkies which failed to impress!

We had a great day today - thanks for the company.
I meant to ask - how did everyone get past that bloody bus? Did he eventually pull over?

Nah, bus struggled slowly up a long, straight hill and we put our collective pedals to the metal in a sporty-type way.
