NSS Spring Run
Sun 20th Apr 2008
organised by Tayside Scotland

Car Count : 6

[ show pre-run info ]

The weather was bright but brisk as 6 cars gathered for the Dundee start of the first NSS run of 2008. We were particularly pleased to welcome 6 new "runners" in Alan, Gordon, Jim, Diane, George and Frances.

The morning run consisted of a zig zag route north of Dundee slowly homing in on Coupar Angus, the route alternating between long straight stretches which could be attacked at pace and some testing narrow twisties. Having liked Meigle so much Colin led his convoy through it twice, then we arrived at the Red House Hotel where the carvery had just opened for business. Hearing that the NSE convoy due to meet us were held up some way away, we tucked in.

We had hoped to join Lorraine and co for the afternoon but had to head off on an impromptu route east towards Forfar where Tom would take over the leadership, but not until Colin felt the need to show the convoy a local farm due to a left turn which had mysteriously appeared since the reccy, owned fortuitously by an ex-pupil of Colin's!

Tom's stretch gave us a totally different experience from the farmland of the morning, taking us to the colder air of the east coast, towards Brechin then heading down through Angus, then skirting Arbroath before returning back to the start.

Thanks to Tom who organised the afternoon stretch at short notice, Malc who helped with the reccy and everyone who resisted making farm gags at the finish!

Yes tis true I was on the reccie - but I didn\'t recognize much of that route. By the way I reckon we went through Meigle 3 times!

Sorry Colin & Co for being late. Good to see you all anyway. Will get the timings better next time!

Sorry we couldn\'t make it at short notice. On the (lack of) car front I can only say \"I\'m dreaming of a Green Eunos, just like the red one I once had...\" Bing Crosby eat your heart out.

It was a great run.  I particularly liked the fact that every time we met a sign for Coupar ANgus, we turned in the opposite direction.  And the afternoon run was spectacular - although for most of it I had no idea where we were!  Thanks all for a great day out.
