The Grudge Match @ Lindisfarne
Sun 22nd Jun 2003
organised by Central Scotland

Car Count : 12

[ show pre-run info ]

In reality, any bloke who is struck by a tennis ball at high velocity in that part of the anatomy, will, by reflex alone, fold instantly in half and will trap the tennis ball. He may not even realise that the tennis ball is being clutched in that way until his eyes stop bulging and the tennis ball is prised from his fingers or until he regains enough breath to relax a little and drop the offending item. Nevertheless it counts as a catch and the match was therefore won.

When our 12 cars arrived at the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, at 1pm, we found our friends and opponents from Tyne Tees waiting for us. We all prepared for our impending battle with the normal pre Olympic competition build up of a chat, building of the gazebo and a barbecue.

As it happened, the Tyne Tees Area Co-ordinator won the raffle, for the 3rd time on a row and Mino carried off the coveted trophy for Best 5 after something of a landslide.

Unfortunately we were beaten, but we took great pride in the fact that Tyne Tees needed Scottish help to get to their victory and had the pitcher not been in the right (or wrong) place, we might have got closer to them than we did.

This is one of the top events in our calendar each year and we all look forward to next year. We just hope we sort the rules out before the second innings!
