Callander Classic Weekend
Sat 26th Aug 2006 to Sun 27th Aug 2006
organised by Central Scotland

Car Count : 26

[ show pre-run info ]

Saturday..I arrived at Ben Ledi park, just after 10:15, after a predominately hood down and dry journey from Glasgow. A few others soon joined me and we set about the bewildering task of assembling the all new spacious and wind proof gazebo, with many hands making lighter work in no time we had the gazebo in position. The Central Scotland Club’s new pop-up banner was unveiled for the first time, this certainly made Stevie’s day when he discovered his car featured on it. We were allocated the very same pitch as last year, although there was no sign of the promised featured area, or crop circle as we fondly called it, in fact there seemed to be a noticeable shortage of stewards and exhibitors for this years Saturday event, perhaps with the very long Classic Car Run to Loch Rannoch taking place it was thought to be unnecessary to waste resources. With the arrival of nearly all our members, we were now able to welcome our visitors Bill & Carolyn from Tyne Tees and Mick & Amanda along with Neill & Sam from Yorkshire Ridings.

Lunch  beckoned as we set off to Thornhill for a bite to eat, fortunately the Lion & Unicorn had extended their car park meaning the large group of cars could park up easier than in previous years.
After lunch our usual Trossachs route was taken and at times at a somewhat slow pace, mainly due to the holiday traffic, but at least it gave our guests a taste of the Dukes Pass.
After a little bit of car cleaning in between the showers, we packed up for the day and headed back to our various hotels, time to spruce up for the party at Richard & Eileen’s.
Richard had once again pulled out all the stops and managed to get hold of a Marquee for the evening’s barbeque. A great time was had by all as we were entertained by the Guitar and songs of Sandy, with assistance from Charles and James.
Sunday arrived and so did the rain, although not quite as bad as last year, you couldn’t help getting that same old feeling of what was to follow. Within no time we had our full compliment of 26 cars on display, we decided to take the bold step and create another featured circle ourselves, albeit this one was unmarked, but it meant we could have two circles with two examples of each mark on show.
A few showers tried to spoil the event but not long after 2pm the sun broke through and stayed with us for the rest of the day. The public seemed to like our positioning of the cars as comments were very favourable and as a bonus we managed to sign up a few new members,
Voting slips for our Car of the Year competition were handed out to each of the members in attendance  and after the votes were carefully counted, Tracy was presented with the Trophy for her  shiny Black Mk-1 Roadster, runner up was Graham Bell with his tastefully modified Red Mk-2.

Another fantastic Callander Classic event and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone taking part, both at the rally field and at the party on Saturday night. A huge thanks to Richard and Eileen for their commitment and hospitality. A  not to be forgotten thanks to Mary who started organising the accommodation way back in January. Congratulations to Tracy for winning the Car of the Year and thank you somebody up there for finally letting the sun shine through.

Douglas.

Very interesting day for me. It was good to meet fellow enthusiasts with a large variety of 5s',and not a hard top amongst you! I was impressed also with all the work a lot of owners have invested in their cars, and with all the arrangements made re shelter and so on. Definately sending off an application to join the club.
