The Borders Run

Sunday 17th September 2017

On a cloudy but dry day, and once we had all assembled at the correct car park, 16 cars left Peebles on our way to the lunch stop at Jedburgh. We took the back roads through Traquair and Cardrona and on to the junction at the Gordon Arms hotel from where we were stuck behind a stubborn local driver who was determined to keep our speed to the absolute minimum over some of the best roads on the run.

When we took the turning for Ettrickbridge, he, thankfully, went in the opposite direction. We then had a fairly straightforward run through Selkirk and past Sir Walter Scott's Abbotsford home on our way to a photo stop at Scott's view where only two of our number found the secret toilet! From there it was on through Kelso, Maxton and Crailinghall to another excellent lunch at the Carters Rest.

The afternoon run took us on a cross country route over part of the old Roman road, through “No man's land” and via Coldstream and Westruther to the run's end at Carfraemill.

Despite the best efforts of some unforecasted showers we managed to remain topless all day although the general concensus was that we had never seen our cars so dirty. I'm still trying to psyche myself up to go out and wash ours!
Apart from the best efforts of some members to get lost, we managed to stay together pretty well, and for that I am most grateful. Yes Drew I know I can get carried away sometimes especially when there is nothing in front of me but it's only because Susan puts pressure on me!

It was great to see so many first timers, and I hope the experience hasn't put them off attending future runs!

Many thanks to Ian for his computer wizardry and for relaying messages to us, and to Drew and Ali for the excellent work as sweepers up.
Finally, many thanks to all who attended our final Borders run and we hope that someone else will take on the challenge.

Great run today - thanks Gordon & Moira for arrangements. Everyone enjoyed it. Pre lunch mileage certainly tested my fluid retentive staying power. Also welcome to Karen & Molly in the first RF this year on a run - hope you enjoyed our company.

Big thanks to Gordon and Moira another fab run round the borders roads. Lunch venue as usual provided an excellent lunch. Good to see we still attract new members and I hope they enjoyed their first outing. Going to wash some of the borders of the car now.

Had a text from Karen saying they had a really fantastic day on Sunday and she is looking forward to her next outing. Gordon apologised for getting her nice new RF  (our first on a run this year) "manky"

Add my thanks to Gordon and Moira for organising a great run. Maybe that should be a new limited edition - the MX5 Manky-could be popular in the Borders

Thanks to Moira & Gordon for organising another great run in the Borders. Sat nav worked perfectly when I got separated from the main group for a short while.

Many thanks to Gordon & Moira for a great run in the borders. Even if the car wasn't dirty after the run it would be washed again anyway!!
