The Halloween party atmosphere was very much in evidence when we arrived at Stirling Services on Sunday morning, the Mini One Owners Club were already in full party mode, with many of the drivers and passengers all dressed up for their day out. Our own event started with a bonus, we knew Gavin and Mino would be there in their spanking new Mk-3 models, but Gavin had also arranged for Andrew Pringle from SDM Mazda to join us with a demonstrator car, and after a good look and a few test drives it was generally decided by our members that the new cars were a treat, rather than a trick.
The Crieff Run is an old favourite with the club and the route Richard and I chose was one of the variations that we did during Edinburgh 2003, it met all the criteria for an impromptu run, not too long and an excellent lunch venue. A brief stop at Aberfoyle before heading over the very wet Dukes Pass, followed by a mostly flooded Lochearnhead to St Fillans section. Once again The Grouse Experience was the venue for lunch and the famous Haggis was? by request put on the menu for us.
After lunch Mino and Gavin judged the dress your car like a Mk-3 competition, Dave and Caroline were worthy winners with their posh theme of candlesticks and picnic hampers, the other winner took a more humorous approach with hacksaws on suspension and jacks on seats, although I think this was perhaps a bit too profound for some people.
After lunch a casual thirty mile drive to the Gleneagles Hotel, where we mostly all enjoyed a surprisingly not too expensive coffee, a perfect finish to what will have been our last run of the year.
Many thanks to Richard for doing a failsafe recce and to Andrew of SDM Mazda for supplying the new car for test drives.

Douglas.

We had a lot of fun today, shame the Mk 3 owners couldn\'t afford to stay for coffee :-)

Oh, that my co-pilot would sleep on the way home!! I had to tell and retell the story of Buzz & Woody in Toy Story, whilst following Gavin through the twisties at speed. Colin McRae never had to do that!!
Graet day out though.

30th Oct 2005 22:54 :: Andy (Sdm Mazda)

Nice Mk3 Mino & Gavin,

We couldn't make it today due to "Puppy" sitting. Will be back soon. By the way Gavin, is the 53 in your number plate your age ? You don't look a day over 50 !

Don.

Thanks to Richard and Douglas for another excellent day - must find out how you get the co pilot to sleep, Pauline, as snoring would be better than the comments I get about speed, cornering, braking etc etc

Graeme, I was being restrained by the 600 mile pseudo running in period. And the cars in front.
Don, i'm not allowed to embelish the plate but next time I see you I'll explain.
The car handles soooo goood. Good choice of roads Richard.
