STAYING AT LOCHEARNHEAD HOTEL

DOUGLAS AND MURIEL HAVE PROVISIONALLY BOOKED 8 ROOMS AT THE LOCHEARNHEAD HOTEL FOR THE NIGHT OF 24TH SEPT:-

4 DOUBLE LOCH VIEW ROOMS AT 100 B&B
4 DOUBLE (NON LOCH VIEW) ROOMS AT 80 B&B

ROUTE

Well leave DFS at 09:00 hopefully and head for Tomintoul, picking up in Grantown en route, and the first surprise, were not stopping for bacon rolls!! No, straight on to Braemar where tea/coffee with cakes/scones are waiting. After a break and a wander we head for Glenshee turning right on the B950 Kirkmichael road to meet the A 924 towards Pitlochry. Well bear left on the unclassified to Eradour and Ballinluig by some narrow roads and over the A9 to Grantully and The Inn on the Tay where well have lunch at around 2:00 pm. After lunch and hopefully a cabaret of white water kayaking we head for Loch Tay on the A827 at Kenmore which we dont quite reach, turning left on an unclassified to Amulree. Right then on to the A822 and Crieff although we will take the Crieff by-pass on our right just before Gilmerton where afternoon tea is arranged. Then its the last lap to the bar at Lochearnhead on the A85 where the route may involve the south road around Loch Earn from St Fillans depending on time available. Relax at the Lochearnhead Hotel.

Sunday
Head out at 09:30 on to the A85 turning right on to the A827 and stopping at Killin to see the Falls of Dochart.
Following the south side of Loch Tay, stopping for photo shoots wherever,  well go through Kenmore and carry on to Fortingall Hotel for tea/coffee and scones followed by a look at the Yew Tree. Off again on the B846 for Tummel Bridge turning left for Loch Rannoch where lunch is arranged. Back track to Tummel Bridge after lunch and follow B8019 along Loch Tummel towards the old A9 (B8079)
where we turn left for Bruar. There, for a change we hope to buy an ice cream and walk to the Upper Falls, or even the Lower Falls, well it makes a change. Tea/coffee if needed then off up the A9 to Aviemore where a final meal is arranged at La Taverna.

The total distance Inverness to Inverness is 335 miles. Even a Mk1 should do it on a full tank!

Big thanks to Douglas & Muriel for organising a very enjoyable weekend away. It was great to try new roads over the two days, and nobody went home hungry from this one! Local Super Car owners will also rest more easily knowing Douglas has returned home!!!
