Mystery Tour Sunday 21st August 2016

All of our participants were notified of the rendezvous by text 24 hours prior to meeting up and sure enough eight cars met at the Dolphin Centre Car Park , North Kessock at 09.50 hours. One of the cars was so well disguised it even looked like an Audi! We set off north and then traversed the Black Isle by some of the back roads before arriving at Chanonry Point, Fortrose. Unfortunately our timing also coincided with the dolphins arriving so the place was packed. Unable to park up we went along to Rosemarkie Beach instead.  The scene at the beach was glorious with blue skies, golden beaches and we were already feeling the heat. We then headed off to Cromarty via the Eathie Road. Once in Cromarty we stopped off at The Pantry for bacon rolls, scones etc. Then we set our agents their first mission of the day. We asked them to pick an envelope which contained a picture of a place in Cromarty and they had to find the place in the photo and take a selfie. Now we know the Hi-5’s are a competitive bunch but the sight of both Andy & Dorothy and Jon & Jane running down Cromarty High Street in an effort to get back to Mission Control first will live with us for a long time. However special mention has to go to Jimmy & Jill who not only found the correct spot at the Old Police Station, but they even persuaded the local cheese shop to dress the bench with similar cheeses that had been on the  original photo that they had been supplied with!
With the sun still shining we headed along the north side of the Black Isle before turning north onto the A9 and then on to the Struie. Instead of the normal traverse of the Struie we turned left at Ardross and had a quick stop at Ardross Church. We then headed along the Scotsburn road to Tain and then out to Tarbat Ness Lighthouse where we stopped and enjoyed the views. Our next stop was lunch at the Balintore Inn.  On arrival we noticed a number of MG’s in the car park with their owners also having lunch in the Balintore Inn.  We guessed that the MG’s were running late (well they don’t go very fast do they?) as the hotel was struggling a bit with both clubs being there at the same time. However the food was pretty good and soon we were all outside enjoying the sunshine where our agents were presented with an observation test on some of the places that they had already visited that day.
Having had the delay at the hotel we were keen to press on and get on with our third challenge of the day which was the tactical firearms test. We headed to Edderton and then back over the Struie where we stopped in the car park at Strathrory where we pulled out the Nerf guns and setup the targets. The weather had changed by this point and we had our first drizzle of the day but this wasn’t a big issue. Unfortunately the same couldn’t be said for the swarms of Midgies that were obviously not happy at us wanting to use the car park as a firing range. We persisted for a while but they did win and soon we were back in the cars heading south.  There was a particularly heavy rain shower on the way back, before we arrived at Skiach Services for some refreshment and to announce the winners of the Top Agents for the day. In third place was Bobby & Debbie (yup –surprised me too), second place was Jon & Jane and the winners were Andy & Dorothy.
Thanks to everybody who came along and for their participation in the missions. Hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did.
