Loch Ness Run
Sun 15th May 2016 to Sun 15th May 2016
organised by Highland Scotland

Car Count : Unknown
[ show event report ]

A Run around Loch Ness organised by Jane & John Macdonald.

Here's the plan Sunday 15th!

1030 - DFS Car Park
Proceed via A82 to Blackfold/Abriachan turn off. Follow backroads to Abriachan, rejoin A82 and head for Loch Ness Clansman Hotel for bacon rolls & coffee (£3.95 pp). Photo opp, toilets, gift shop. They will keep 10 parking spaces for us.

Depart Clansman Hotel follow A831 to Corrimony Chambered Cairn. Stop for 15 mins or so.

Continue on A831 to Cannich, turn left and take the Fasnakyle loop back to Cannich. Drive down south side of Strathglass across Struy Bridge, turn at Kilmorack for backroads to Muir of Ord and Beauly.

Lunch at The Old School Café/Gift Shop. Menus to follow for everyone to pre-order if they want us to. They do sandwiches, quiches, soup, baked potatoes etc. Toilets, gift shop etc.

Depart Beauly on A862 for Inverness - turn at Inchberry and drive backroads towards Abriachan Forest. Viewpoint/photo opp just after Newtonhill crossroads.

Weather permitting, stop at Abriachan Forest Walks for a short walk to the bird hide at Loch Laide (about 15-20 minutes). Trainers or stout shoes are fine for this as there is a good path and wooden walkway all the way. Bring your 'I-Spy Scottish Birds' books folks! There are tree houses and all sorts of 'juvenile' things here for us to take advantage of...

Depart Abriachan Forest and re-join A82 (8% gradient to main road), stopping at the Wellington Layby for photo opp if weather permits, then to Loch Ness Country House Hotel for 'Tea and Patisserie Selection' (£9 pp). This may sound pricy but they have a Belgian patisserie chef there who makes the most amazing things! Prosecco is £6.95 per glass for those who fancy it.

Finish here (approx. 4.30 ish).
