August Pub Night and Mini Run

Brewers Fayre
Phoenix Business Park

Thursday 4th August 2016

We were the first to arrive & remembering the time at Stirling, decided submit the meal order early.

Evan & Carol arrived next then Hugh & Karine & Ian who was now back in the driving seat but unfortunately Jacqueline couldn’t make it.  New faces Dean & Jacquie arrived with David + 1.

This left Alan and Bobbie & Richard but like us, the decision on food was made and ordered.

Just as we were wondering where Alan had got too, Marcia’s phone went –“where are you all?”  Turned out Alan was sitting in the next eatery along the road wondering why no MX’s in the car park!  5 mins later he was with us.

Meals arrived but Evan’s fish must have been “line caught” because we think they had trouble catching it, given the time it took.  None the less, I think all enjoyed the meals as presented.

Just as we were finishing, another new face – Elizabeth, arrived to do the run only.  We sat for another 30 mins having a chin wag & catch up then it was all out to the carpark where 8 cars were all lined up.  Still no sign of B & R and no body appeared to want a briefing so off we went, tops down with Alan close hauled on myself (in case he got lost?) and Ian kindly picking up tail end.  Only Ian & ourselves had walkie talkies, Evan having mislaid his early in the year.

Still it was a straight forward route with plenty of traffic lights which mostly turned Red at the right time to hold us in convoy.

Heading first to Elderslie, Foxbar and then onto the Gleniffer Braes road with a brisk pace, we took the cut right onto B776 back towards Howood. Crossing over for the Lochwinnoch road, the sun was starting to get low and blinding which slowed the pace until the sun was hidden behind a cloud.  Re-joining the B786 heading toward Kilmacolm, we cut back to Bridge of Weir on the Torr Rd which was a bit rough in places. At BoW we encountered 3 sets of traffic lights and this split us up but Ian got those that had been stopped through to where we were stopped on the Houston Rd.  From there it was back to Linwood and then the Brewers Fayre car park.

After another chat to all, we all headed off on our way homewards with the dark descending but with a pleasant 16° C most left with the tops still down.  Sadly with the dark and lights on, a few bugs wouldn’t be flying again!

We hope you all enjoyed the night out and the run, and for those new to our outings, hope to see you again.
