July Pub Meet and Mini Run

The Boathouse,
Auchinstarry Marina,
Kilsyth,

Thursday 7th July 2016

The Boathouse at Auchinstarry Marina, Kilsyth was the venue for our second pub night and mini run of the summer. Fifteen hungry diners arrived on time and although we did not have our usual room at the far end of the restaurant, we were all comfortably seated near the bar. However there was not much evidence of alcohol being bought (even Carol had to be prompted to finish her glass of wine after the meal).

The usual catch up chat ensued while we finished our meal and, as 8:30 crept up, I was prompted by my better half that we should get a move on, pay the bill and make a start on the driving bit of the evening. I looked out over the marina and the odd spot of rain was starting to dapple the water.
Undaunted we went to the cars and got everyone sorted. Ian and Jacqueline were not driving as he had just had eye surgery and Raymond was on his way home after working away from home, so eight cars left the marina, roofs down, for a short run up  the Tak-Ma-Doon road towards Carron valley. If we had stopped at the view point near the top we would have had a fine view of Lanarkshire and West Lothian but I kept going. Also the learner driver in the civic coming the other way must have felt a bit worried by eight cars moving swiftly past him.

On past Carron Valley reservoir and then onto the Crow Road to Lennoxtown on road surfaces varying from good to a bit lumpy. However there was not much traffic and allowed a brisk pace to be achieved on great windy MX-5 roads. We continued back to Kilsyth Boathouse where we had a final chinwag before heading for home. Midges also made a move more urgent.

Everyone commented on how good the mini run was and I can agree. A lovely meal and drive.
See you all at another run soon.
