The Fife Circle Run

Sunday 17th April 2016

Another fine Sunday run completed with 20 cars  and 34 members turning up for roof down motoring in sunny Fife. We gathered at a rather chilly but dry Dobbies garden centre in Dunfermline for pre run coffees, scones and the odd full breakfast before meeting up in the car park to view the first two Mk4s to take part in a Central run - Chrisís lovely ceramic sport Recaro and Stewartís ??? (sorry Stewart I did not have the chance to chat to you about your new car). After distributing copies of the routes and finally giving up trying to explain the run format especially to those new members  (donít you know you should listen intently to what the run organiser says even if he does not have a loud hailer!!!!!) we set off through west Fife to Crossgates, Auchtertool, Kirkcaldy and onwards to Glenrothes.

Thank goodness for radios and a middle and end car to let the lead driver know how far we had spread out. Twenty cars do take up a fair bit of road space.
We continued on through picturesque holiday towns of Coaltown of Balgonie, Markinch and Kennoway before heading through more rural countryside to Peat Inn and St Andrews. Even skirting the centre of St Andrews which tends to be a very busy town, we were still split up and half the group stopped opposite St Andrews University sports ground to allow the tail enders to catch up.
While parked, a man walking his dog stopped to ask us if we were looking for Davidís house as he had an MX-5 and was a member. David, if you read this I do not think you could cope with 20 cars and 34 people turning up unannounced for a cup of tea.

Finally all together again, we headed for Strathkinness, Guardbridge and Leuchars before skirting Tentsmuir forest and onwards to Tayport and the Tay bridge with fine views over the river to Dundee. By this time the effect of the start of run coffee was beginning to tell and a desperate toilet stop awaited at Cairney Fruit farm via Wormit and Balmerino. Suitably comforted we had refreshments and a fine selection of cakes at the farm and some shopping was completed at the farm shop by certain unnamed ladies.

After a 45 minute stop at the fruit farm we set off again, back towards the A92 before heading west towards Lindores, Newburgh and Abernethy. Turning south onto windy country lanes towards Strathmiglo and Falkland we met numerous cyclists and farm machinery but a good pace was maintained. After Falkland we headed up over the Lomond Hills Regional Park to Leslie. Lovely views over Loch Leven were observed before reaching the village of Cleish where we turned left over the hills to Loch Glow and the Kelty/Saline road. We met up with a couple of riders heading the same way behind a car and after following them at a reasonable trot on the single track road the car pulled over followed by the horses. Assuming I could pass, I started to slowly move forward when the lead rider turned round and told me in a loud voice to wait until I was told to go. I bet she was pretty handy with the whip she had in her right hand.

We were now back into west Fife and moved quickly through Saline, Comrie and Blairhall before reaching Culross and our late lunch at the Red Lion Inn. Most people parked at the public car park and walked back to the pub but some lazy so and soís used the pub car park. If I had led everyone in there then chaos would have ensued as there was not enough room for all. We said farewell to those who were not eating before walking to the pub.

We had a very nice lunch served efficiently as usual by the very nice young ladies. A raffle was also held and  £87 was raised for our two charities.

I would like to thank everyone for coming along today - it was a great turn out and thankfully we did not lose anyone on route. Also thanks for raffle prizes and ticket buying and I hope everyone had an enjoyable day. See you all soon.

Drew and Ali,
Thankyou for yet another brilliant drive, quite a complex one actually. I was very greatfull for the radio contact to keep in touch.
As you know I have been exposed to \' The Dark Side\' and ordered myself a new Boxster, will anyone ever forgive me?  Those that I mentioned it to we\'re very inclusive but I think that I might be an imposter on future runs unless you say differently. I\'d love to come along atleast for the remainder of my MX5 club membership. Who knows I might well see the light again and the budget.
Best wishes and Thankyou,
Dave
