The Easter Weekend

Saturday 26th to Monday 28th March 2016

For our 2016 Easter weekend well be returning one of the very best areas of Scotland in which to enjoy driving your MX-5, Ullapool, Wester Ross.

This is a wild and beautiful area of Scotland, dominated by imposing mountains and breathtaking scenery. When you include some of the very best MX-5 style roads in Europe, the area is absolutely worth visiting whatever the weather.

Read all about our previous visits to this area in 2013, 2014 and 2015

Our accommodation for two nights will be at The Royal Hotel, Garve Road, Ullapool. IV26 2SY Tel: 01854 612181

Once again we've also managed to negotiate a great deal with the hotel. This is the same as the last two years.

  • Dinner Bed and Breakfast in a balcony room overlooking Loch Broom for only 134.00 per couple per night.

  • A balcony room for single occupancy is 67 DB&B per night.

  • The hotel is holding 20 rooms for us until the end of January. To avoid disappointment make sure you phone the hotel to book your room asap. Make sure you quote The MX-5 Owners Club to ensure you receive the above rates.

    The routes and lunch stops on Saturday and Monday will be posted once details are finalised.

    The Sunday lunch stop will be at Lochinver. There is the famous Pie Shop which is excellent or you might want to use a local cafe or pub. It will be up to you..

    Event Organisers: Jim & Drew

    Once again we intend to have an Easter egg rolling competition. Prizes will be given for the best decorated egg and furthest rolled. So remember to bring your decorated hard-boiled egg along and join in the fun.
    However this year there will also be an Easter Bonnet competition for ladies (and a bunnet competition for men if you want to join in. If you do a bunnet then we do not expect a highly decorated egg - just concentrate on rolling distance!)

    A raffle will be held with the proceeds this year going to -

    Children's Hospice Association Scotland  and Combat Stress

    Donations of prizes are always welcome.

    The Easter Sunday drive takes us deep into Assynt, passing through Lochinver, Clashnessie, Drumbeg and Kylesku. The magnificent mountain views of Stac Pollaidh, Suilven and Canisp are just a small sample of the stunning views and spectacular scenery well encounter during the day.

    This run will be shorter than usual which allows us to have more stops for photos, toilets etc. We intend to spend around an hour in Lochinver and another hour in Kylesku allowing plenty of time to explore and enjoy a quick coffee or light lunch. We will also have the Easter egg rolling competition on route. So remember to bring your decorated hard-boiled egg along.

    Superb weekend, even the weather was kinder than expected. Thanks to all for a great atmosphere, hyper Alan for lively entertainment and not forgetting the Wattie quiz - team 'losers again' won.
    No truth in rumour that Wattie set it at our lower standard this year.

    29th Mar 2016 17:09 :: Raymond & marcia
    Many thanks to Maria & Jim, Ali & Drew for organising a great Easter weekend away. Also a big thank you to Wattie for doing the quiz & making it  bit easier this yr. many thanks to everyone who went on the weekend & made it such an enjoyable event .
    P.s. Unfortunately we met up with THAT camper van heading down Loch Lomond his driving hadn't improved nor his speed .

    29th Mar 2016 18:47 :: Bobbie & Richard
    Thanks so much to Ali and Drew and Maria and Jim for a fantastic weekend.  The improvement in the weather helped but the main thing was a really great social weekend. Everyone joined in and the highlight was Wattie's quiz which was great fun. (Not that being in the winning team has made us biased. Great to see the new members there too.

    30th Mar 2016 21:26 :: Dave
