The Perthshire Glens Run

Sunday 13th September 2015

Our penultimate run of the year started off in bright sunshine when 28 members in 16 cars met up at Dobbies Garden Centre, Stirling for our run round Perthshire glens and lochs. After the usual pre start coffee and tyre kicking session we set off on the M9 towards Dunblane  before branching off onto more suitable side roads to Kinbuck, Braco and the B827 to Comrie. This is a super road with plenty of sweeping bends and thankfully a truck, which we had followed from Braco, finally pulled over after a few miles allowing us to push on a wee bit more spiritedly. Onwards via St Fillans with a superb view over Loch Earn, to  Lochearnhead for a comfort stop. We enjoyed watching the children playing with their bikes in deep puddles and getting soaked before resuming our drive towards Killin and the single track road over Ben Lawers to Bridge of Balgie and Glen Lyon.
It was still a bit too early to enjoy the spectacular autumnal colours in the glen but we still had a brisk (maybe too brisk for me and Ali, but we survived!!!) run to our coffee stop at Kenmore.
This was a little bit disappointing as coffee quality, service and staff rapport could have been a bit bette, but heh ho, maybe the waitress might carry out her threat to her colleagues and pack it in thus improving the quality for customers.

After the break we headed off up over the moors to Glen Quaich. I felt a bit sorry for the elderly driver we met on the climb up from Kenmore who had to reverse 200-300 yards to a passing place. He certainly needed to improve on his reversing skills but it was easier than trying to reverse 16 MX-5s. We then headed down the Sma Glen to Crieff and onwards to Muthill, Glen Devon and into the Kingdom of Fife to final late lunch stop at the Red Lion Inn, Culross. We only lost one car on the Fife section - poor Jim - TomTom say go straight on, everyone else turned right. However he still arrived at Culross as we were starting to head off to the pub.

The Red Lion provided a great meal and everyone said they had a lovely time. By around 5pm it was time to head back to the cars and wend our ways home. Thanks everyone for your company and making it a lovely day.

See you at the Planning Meeting and Christmas Lunch!!
