Kingdom of Fife & The Kelpies

[ show pre-run info ]

6 cars met up at the Tay Bridge car park at 10am (we had reminded everyone the night before to put their clocks forward so they didn't turn up an hour late) and Larry led a criss cross path across Fife, including a wee break in Falkland. At one point Ian suggested we may be lost, which we took as a compliment, before we stopped at Powmill for a bit of brunch.

As we were about to leave, we spotted a familiar car coming into the car park Fergus & Helen, who were planning to meet us at the Kelpies, were driving past
and had seen the cars so they pulled into to join us for the second half of the trip down.

Along the way we had dust, mud, puddles, rain and
shine we even had a burn across the road at one point - however this all added to the enjoyment.

Upon reaching Falkirk, a couple of cars decided they knew a short cut they were right! However we all got to the car park in plenty of time to buy our tickets and wrap up for the tour of The Kelpies. Tom, Jen and Jake the dog unfortunately could not join us for the tour so we said goodbye to them.

During the tour, we were given a bit of the folklore and background which gave birth to these stunning structures, before seeing them up close and personal, even getting to go inside one of them. We would fully recommend it for anyone who has not yet experienced this.

Afterwards, one George & Lilias decided to go directly home whilst the rest of us meandered back across Fife at one point it looked like we were diving through a play park but Larry assured everyone it was actually a road before stopping off at the Tail End in St Andrews for well deserved fish & chips all round.

By the time we eventually got home, happy and with full stomachs, we had been out for 10 hours a good day indeed :-)

Well done Larry and Mel for organising such a great run today. Some stunning views and great roads and a car wash or two! I had a great day  and hope to do it all again soon.
