Hi-5's go to Durness

Sunday 19th July 2015

Visit to Cocoa Mountain in Durness

The aim of this trip is to do a loop of North West Scotland taking in one of our favourite stops Ė The Cocoa Mountain Cafe near Durness.
We plan to leave DFS Inverness car park at 09.15 and rendezvous with those coming in from the north at Kenís Garage at Kildary for 10am. From there we will head north on the A9 before heading west on the A949 road through Clashmore & Spiningdale before joining the A836 at Bonar Bridge where we then head north for Lairg and a scone/bacon roll stop at The Pier in Lairg.
After refreshment we head north west on the A838 past Loch Shin and Loch More. Once on the west coast we then turn right and stay on the A838 as we head north past Rhiconich and the Kyle of Durness before arriving at Durness for a two stop lunch. Starters and main courses can be had in the Smoo Cave Hotel, but deserts will be reserved for our visit to Cocoa Mountain at Balnakeil. If weather allows we may even have a run along to the beach at Balnakeil.
From Coco Mountain we then head east along the north of the country, around the stunning Loch Eribol and Kyle of Tongue before turning right and heading inland on the A836. We will pass Loch Loyal as we head south for Altnaharra, and then stop off for a light refreshment at the highest pub in the land at Crask.
From Crask we then head south back to Lairg and this time we cross the Struie before stopping off at the Skiach services where those in the north can say their goodbyes, and the rest of the party head south to Inverness.

Thanks to Bobby and Debbie for a great run today. Hope Rob and Iona and Alix and John enjoyed their first trip with us and that we will see them again on a run soon. As always great company and craic, Bobby did promise the sun and it did make an appearance albeit for a short while. See you all again soon. C&G
