Scottish Gathering 2018 - 3rd June - Save the date.

Postby IanH » Sat Oct 28, 2017 12:34 pm

Similar to 2016 in Braemar there is a proposal to hold a Scottish Gathering for MX-5 owners and enthusiasts on Sunday 3rd June.

This is in very early stage discussion, the 2016 event attracted over 100 cars and was quite a spectacle.

Look out for more details in the coming months.

I also remember an event called The Gathering back in 2007 (Early September I think):

If the cars finished I'll be in attendance.

I'll not forget it as, principally, I arranged it.
The most memorable bit for me was the mayhem & clogging caused by "some people" jostling for their more favoured "position" other than where they were politely requested by stewards to park up.
Some peoples' reversing & manoeuvering "skills" were epic & hilarious but not in a good way!
Hard to believe it's 10 years now.
I expect we are "all growed up now"

Well, hassles that you may have had aside, it was a good day out and, I thought, well organised.

Having been involved in organising a variety of things for various groups over the years, I know what it takes to put even a relatively simple event on. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes that most people never see (nor do they need to) but it's all those things that make the difference between a successful event and a shambles.

There's a lot more Mark 1s in that 2007 event photo than there was at last years one :(

What a difference 9 years makes!
Previously in a 2003 Montana, now in a 1991 V-Special...

Yup.
Subjected to decades of being "slammed innit bro", dissolving like an aspirins in boiling water, tracked to death and wrecked, and generally run into the ground.
Which makes your particular example and ones like it 3 times the value of most decent Mk2's, and twice the value of many early Mk3's
Look up the white one in the OC just advertised. Worth every cent of it's 7.5k ...to someone.
Mk1s are finally having the last laugh. It's happening even sooner than I thought it may.

Back on topic...I hope a few present themselves at the above advertised event.
