MK 3.5 - Wet Passengers Footwell

Postby Downiearino » Mon Nov 14, 2016 6:19 pm

Hello everyone, I hope someone can help, got in the car this morning and noticed the passenger footwell was soaking, had really heavy rain the last couple of days but wasn't expecting that!!

We checked the hood drains and they are clear, what else can it be? trying to find an independent Mazda specialist in the Edinburgh area without success, don't want to get shafted by Western Mazda quite yet!!!!

can anyone help with a garage or let me know what it might be, its a 59 plate hard top sport

cheers

There is a grommet just forward of the windscreen that often perishes and can let water in.

yes that's what it will be.

I changed mine last year and pretty straightforward.

better to do both sides when you have the cowling off.

changed my passenger side last month and resolved, also buy the cover which MX5 parts recommend you to do as I broke mine removing so glad I followed their advice .

as it says on their webpage TIP "hole covers"

thanks, had ordered them before I read that but its actually missing one anyway so ive bought two.

It had the EGR vale replaced a short while ago and I noticed the small cover missing just after that.

seems the two are connected!!

You might need to lift the carpet to thoroughly dry the underneath. You don't want to get the ECU wet and it lives under the carpet.

Sorry, I haven't had to do so a I caught my leaking grommet early on when it was dripping onto my wife's leg! Should be easy enough to at least raise it from the door sill and prop it up and then stick a fan heater in to dry it.
