Gearbox oil change

Postby kpdornan » Tue Jun 21, 2016 11:59 am

Hi,

I will, hopefully, be attempting my first gearbox oil change this weekend and am looking for some tips on how to get the best access to the drain/fill plugs.

I have a 2003 1.8 svt.

have had a look underneath and I am presuming that there are a couple of bits to remove first.

Anyone got any pics to help me on my way?

thanks

Kevin

I have used one of these to refill the diff and gearbox in the past but recently tried the hose / funnel trick in the link above which was much easier :)

If you want bring it up to Drumtochty and use my Two Post Lift and large oil syringe. You can also get better access to underneath to check various bits and touch up the underseal.

I have a tender shoulder so will be in supervision mode only bring overals

If it is 5 speed get 2 litres and if it is a 6 speed you need three litres as they usually use a bit more than 2 litres but if you bring it up I will have a half litre or so of the multivehicle.

The stock it at Halfords Dundee and Arbroath.

The car has a six speed and it is easy to destroy the box if you remove the wrong bolt.

Hi,

that would be great, thanks very much for the offer.

I have 3 litres of the oil already so should be ok on that front.

Is there a particular day that suits?

I'm away in Aberdeen all day Saturday free Sunday or possibly next weekend?

thanks again

Sorted and the underneath of the car is now in a better state.

Good result in the end.
