Car insurance

Postby BBAV » Sun Jun 19, 2016 4:52 pm

Hi All,
I have just had my car insurance reminder in to cover my 5 mk2 1.8 for the next year and it is £217 and it just got me wondering how that compared with the rest of you guys. Is this a good deal or could I be getting it cheaper elsewhere. I am of the age where I am now retired (not a young tearaway anymore) I am interested to hear what you pay for your 5's, and yes I know it all depends on what you use your car for and where you lock it up at night etc. etc. as to what it will cost you. I use mine purely for social.

I contacted Adrian Flux Ins. they couldn't get it below £300 and they are the supposedly the sport car specialists, so maybe I am getting not too bad a deal after all. Incidentally I'm insured with Saga.(as I said earlier I'm at that age)

But it would be good to hear what some of you are paying for your Insurance and with what company.

Kind regards,
Bill.

Go on to something like confused.com and get a quote from all their insurers.

You did not put your location or whether the car is garaged overnight.

Also it is your situation that is costed not what others in different situations pay. Therefore there is no fixed numbers here.

Give Greenlight a bash, they've always been able to beat anything else I've found online.

I'm £192 fully comp.

That's for agreed value, 5k miles per year and all mods declared (wheels/suspension/induction kit/strut brace/exhaust).

Car is a 1991 Eunos V-Special.

That is with Footman James.

I'm 45.
Previously in a 2003 Montana, now in a 1991 V-Special...

Hi Guys
Thanks for your replies regarding MX5 insurance.
What a variation in what we all pay, as I said in my previous post I'm insured with Saga my renewal quote is £217, don't know how they can offer you (softmc) ins. for £115, I do approx. same mileage as you, my car isn't garaged but does sit in my driveway. I contacted the companies that some of you are with i.e. Adrian Flux they quoted £300 online./ Footman James online were £347, then they phoned me to say they may be able to better it, they eventually came back with £558 ???????/ Greenlight took me to the same Ins. Broker as Footman James.

I have tried the comparison sites as suggested by Drumtochty and I have got it below the Saga renewal quote with Esure Ins. they quoted £180, so atleast I'm heading in the right direction.

Thanks to all for your help in trying to get me cheaper ins.

Be careful with esure. Do a google search and have a look at some of the complaints about them. Were the cheapest by far for me too, but after reading some of the reviews, I decided to go with privilage instead.

I have no idea what their premium would be for an MX5 but I had a very pleasant experience with Quotemehappy.com after I drowned my Audi A6 allroad in January. From incident to the agreed settlement being in my bank account was 14 days. They also paid me retail value of my car.

I took out Aviva multicar for my 2016 VW Tiguan and 2013 MX-5 sport graphite.
They quoted £194 for VW and £187 for MX-5, total £381 and they gave a further discount of £82.03 for multicar, so paid £298.97.
I did not take out courtesy car in event of accident as we have the two cars so this reduced premium. Also added foreign travel recently for a roadtrip to southern Ireland and they only charged £10 extra. Also have 12 years NCD and am of mature years (drawing pension now).
Excesses were reasonable. All done online with great website.
If you were also taking out a new policy you could go through Quidco and get a further cashback of £50 currently.

Just bought a mk1 1.8. No no claims (0). Parked in the street and was quoted £230 on moneysupermarket. I'm 45. So I guess getting older helps.
