How to change an ND back box in 30 minutes..

If you don't have a lift handy another way of getting the rear in the air is helpful..

Once the car is in position and the exhaust is cooling you will want to unpack and examine the new noise maker. This is the Good Win Racing Super Street which is a personal import with the great help and professionalism of Moto East in the US.

Now things have cooled down a bit take a 14mm spanner and take out the spring studs from the exhaust flange.

Work the rubber mounting hangers with soapy water and they'll slide off without too much effort.

Comparison between old and new, note the much smaller size (and lighter) and the construction with the Helmholtz Resonator chamber.

Image

New one quickly slotted into place, everything lines up perfectly.

Hangers back on.

Flange bolted up.

Sitting pretty.

All done, looks good and sounds good too... I have left the removable baffle in place for now, will take it out in a couple of days to assess the difference.

I have a video, will post it once I work out how to get it from the phone to photobucket..

Notice the Jimny in the background did you change the diff oils after going through that flood earlier in the year. Just did the front diff on the Jimny on Sunday and the oil was cloudy and thinking that was maybe water that had got in there and evapourated but had made the oil sligtly like a poreable paste

No, I'd like to give the Jimny a full oil (and general) service, will discuss with you at the weekend.

Nice how to Ian.

Would you be able to post the dimensions of the cardboard box it came in.
I am in the USA a couple of times over the next few months so may consider shipping one to my hotel and wanted to asess the size for bringing it home with the airline or I could take an extra large case if it would fit inside.

Does the back box fit the 1.5 & 2.0? Mine is a 1.5.

Thx.

Mine is the 1.5, fittings are the same.

This direct from Good-Win

Because of the hangers all three of our ND exhausts have same size box 45x24x10 inches.

Weight with box becomes about 20 pounds on that one.

I looked at doing the same and found that size not weight became the issue for excess baggage, BA of the major airlines may let you take it on board (as hold baggage) for a £60 fee, in the end I couldn't reach a conclusion I was comfortable with which is why I shipped it.

Will be interested in what you conclude.

problem is it may invalidate the warranty in several areas.

On the flange between the back box and existing mid pipe perhaps, what else? I certainly don't believe so, Mazda themselves sell a bastuck aftermarket box.

just a thought Ian, I would imagine that if your engine blew up or the car went on fire, etc (although certainly unlikely )
the first thing Mazda and/or your insurance company would look at was non standard accessories fitted.

Just talked to a guy locally who does remaps using the maps from one of the larger remapping companies.

His main business at the moment is not cars but people bringing in works vans that have the same engine as the matching cars but a lower state of tune.

These drivers obviously do not bother about their works van's warranties!

Literally thousands of 5's scooting around with aftermarket 'zorsts.
I called the insurance when I fitted the Mx5Parts SS to the Sport, plus the new alloys..which are 215 up from 205.
They simply "noted" it, and bunged it up for the price of a visit to Costas for the "mods".
Think I'd be more worried about Santa getting wedged in my chimney TBH.
